I have the device you mentioned. I've yet to use it on my M3, but it worked great to read/clear CEL on my Honda Accord that I recently sold. The software I purchased is called Movi and it is for Mac OSX -- Unlike the iPhone, the MacBook Pro's BT works just fine with the cheap BT OBDII adapter.

TorquePro + ELM327 bluetooth adapter is a hard to beat combination. Data logging is invaluable as well.
Maintains most if not all of the functions on OBDII vehicles. My scantool collects dust since that application download.

ELM327 BT Adapter
Okay, got my ELM327 today, plugged it in the my M3's OBD-II port and paired to my phone. Guessed the BT pairing code of 0000, and it did not work, so tried 1234, and that did work. Security at its finest. TorquePRO So, now that I'm connected, I fire up TorquePRO, and create a vehicle profile (yes, when you select 3 Series (E92), it does list the M3), select the correct BT adapter, and voila, connected. Scan for codes, finds none, play with real-time diagnostics, and all works fine. Pretty neat app. I misread this thread that there was light car coding that could be done.. It's the OTHER app (BMWhat) that does this. I download the Lite version to test it out, and it's even easier to connect the adapter to the BMWhat application. BMWhat Lite First thing I do once connected in BMWhat Lite: Read fault codes.. Hmmm finds two, where TorquePRO found none. The limitation of the Lite version is that it doesn't tell you the damn codes, but you can send the log off to the app creator, and you supposedly get one detailed diagnostic report back. I have no idea how long that takes, but I'm guessing it is not automated, as it has been 30 minutes or so. So, either it's manual (poor bastard), that feature doesn't work, or it's a ploy to get you to pay for the expensive pay version ($58.75). I then go to the Coding menu, and it reads which ECUs are compatible. I get a choice of 4 ECUs to potentially code, but two of them really have no options to change anything. The other two sections allow you to read your current settings, back up your settings, and appear to change settings (but it doesn't work). I'm assuming you need the $$ version for that. Still, if they keep on adding coding features, I'd consider paying for it. Right now, the things that interested me were auto-lock features, windows up with key fob, and not a whole heck of a lot more.. though there are a little over a dozen things you can tweak. Wish there were more. Summary I will be contacting the BMWhat app author to see if I can convince him to do some of the other cooler stuff that other coders offer. If they add the features, I can test and will definitely buy. For now, it's not worth it to me, though it seems to have FAR more promise than Torque, but it's FAR more $$. |

So just read the reviews of the wifi version and it does work albeit short wifi range. My car is out of warranty and just got the "increased emissions" error. Will be bringing the car to the dealership tomorrow cause i'm anal and can't wait for a couple of days until the elm327 gets here... At least i'll have that when i run into other errors in the future.
The free/simple coding features of BMWhat makes it quite a nice tool to have.

You can definately code all the neat lights/windows/key fob/side mirrors with BMWhat. But since I already have all these codings on my car already, I am waiting for EuroMDM coding to be available before I purchase the app. I emailed the developer, and he said that they might consider developing the DSC module if there's enough requests for it. So if any one is interested in coding EuroMDM... please email the developer and request it!!

I'm waiting when I can use a smartphone to load tuner files onto my car. Have to drop it at the valet? Flash RPM limit to 4500. Broke down by the side of the road and the dealer sent a tow truck? Flash to stock.

That bt receiver has very poor latency and poor throughput. Don't expect too much from it. I used one on my 335i (the Kline 07 version) and it was terrible. Maxed out around 5 words per/sec with 500ms of latency. Maybe true CAN is better. But I had a bad experience.
