If you get the M, definitely go for at least a 2009. While iDrive may be a minor difference, I went from an 08 and to an 09 and could not go back to having the 08 iDrive.

I currently have a 2008 CTS, i looked at the cts v, they are very fast, and i love the car, but, there is just something about a bimmer that says performance, and status. If i were you, i would keep the cts v until you can buy or lease a 2011 M3.

2 very different cars in my opinion. Get the M3 if you're going to track the car or take it to back roads, the CTS-V if you just want to cruise around but still have the power to smoke pretty much anyone on the freeway. Good luck with your decision.

I drove the CTS-V (sedan) and I really wasn't impressed - I actually went into the driving experience with an open mind and high hopes. Severely disappointed.

A good friend of mine just leased on because she got a great deal, she's been hating the car since day one - sucks for her and the 2-year lease.

It's a very unemotional car, I drove the 2011 GT500 Mustang a few days ago and can tell you that car is pure raw energy and pleasure on the road. The CTS is boring as hell. The styling is OK on the outside (even the regular CTS doesn't like bad), the interior is nice, you have Brembo's outside which is a nice touch but for some reason I just couldn't feel the power in that car. It was unemotional and boring. Maybe it was a brand new car and hadn't been broken in yet but it was boring!

I would get an M3 any day of the week.

I would do it, the OP did say that he can get 6k back from the trade. He can use it for a SC upgrade. Now he'll have power, handling, and a awesome looking ride. The M3 will make you look 10 years younger if you are a middle age guy.

I'm not a sedan guy for my performance car, but I certainly understand their appeal. And now the the CTS-V has a coupe, I'm curious about driving it. Not being a fanboy of any brand or model, will certainly rate it on its merits alone.

OP, you never said why you want to get rid of the V. Can you elaborate? But as many already said, unless you're totally disgusted with the car, I'd definitely keep it over getting into an '08 M3. If you wanted a 6MT, you could have gotten one in the V too . Good luck.

Well I just participated in CTS-V coupe and sedan event @ MSR track Houston. My thoughts are here in this thread. But CTS-V sedan is comparable to M5 not an M3. You can maybe push the envelop a bit and compare the CTS-V coupe to M3 coupe. However, I think CTS-V coupe is more comparable to M6 not an M3. Anyways my thoughts on the rest is below.

If I trade the Caddy for the M3 I could get back around
6k....

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
I don't know the deals out there, but if you can get 6k back, why don't you get a 2009 or 2010?

If I were looking for a used M3 sedan, I'd look for a 2009 b/c of the idrive and facelift.
