Riding on the back of this thread:

How does this work for 2009 (August 2009) CIC cars? Do I need to update the firmware before I can install 2017-1 US Maps?

If so, how do I check my current firmware?

No, you don't need to update firmware.

I just updated the original maps on my 2009 E92 to 2017-1. Got them from eBay as others here have done. Bought "forever" code. Loaded everything on a single 32 GB stick and swapped the files around from my PC when the system called for a new stick. So, yes, you can take the USB stick out between loads, in case anybody's wondering. Took about 45 minutes thanks to what must be a very slow USB port in the glove box. But everything went without a hitch. Note that the interface does not change as some have asked. Just the data. Best $30 expense yet.

It's not a slow USB interface, it's just a shitload of data being written to a platter hard drive (spinning drive) and a slow CPU to process all of it.

It was only 27GB ;-)

You're absolutely right, @dparm.

You can put them on one 32gb flash drive. You just have to move some files around on the flash drive each time the car prompts you for text flash drive.

BPM sells the Map pack for $100, might be able to negotiate a better price if eBay has it for $30... you'd know you're getting the right software too.

Thanks
