Don't buy a Lexus if you value your life.

This sent chills down my spine. And before anyone says its fake it was also reported in our national News Papers and websites.

That was just one I found....not a good thing to make sarcastic remarks over a family death

Not sure about the other side of the pond, but here in US, the recall are only for Toyotas, none from Lexus yet or any Lexus models affected. Or I'm just not aware of.

Couldn't agree any more...this is a major safety recall....just hope they can fix all the cars before another accident...

and as a joke....Toyota should have their Formula 1 team's gas pedal stuck last year...otherwise they would've win some race....

its all bad around for Toyota...pulling out from Formula 1, and now the major safety recall.....

Very bad year for them... If the recall is as big as they say its is, plus all the customers they will lose we could see an end to a big company!

Reputation and confidence takes a long time to build up, but they can be destroyed quickly...

He had the state of mind and time to make an emergency phone call but not to turn off the engine and pull the e-brake?

Yes of course we're not in the hot seat when the shit hits the fan...we can clearly think...."put it in neutral, then foot on brake, and hand-brake."....

but how often do we mentally prepare and practice if anything happens. and even so, how effective can you preform under stress and family members scream and crying and panic at the rear....

You make a very good point. The guy also mentioned he had no brakes - I think we have to assume they were toasted before the call.

I was in a similar situation about 10 years ago when some plastic piece of the throttle broke in the automatic Ford I was driving at the time. I didn't think to put it in neutral right away, but luckily had a couple of green lights in front of me and no traffic so I had the time to trouble-shoot, find a place to get off the road and shut it down. I also had the added benefit that this all occurred at low speeds so my brakes were useful.

old story, very sad to hear.

What I don't get is..as soon as there is public knowledge/Media about these sticky gas pedals..all of a sudden Toyotas and Lexus start driving thrrough buildings and running loos all over the place? Come on..

Didn't seem to happen until it was in the news.

Back on topic..

I'm not trying to bash the deceased especially since we don't know what happened but why can't they just put it in neutral and slow down to a stop with the hand brake. Seems like whenever something is not going right first thing people do is slam on the brakes.

+1 to the above, accelerator stuck or not, you can just take the car out of gear.

Secondly, don't most drive-by-wire cars kill throttle when the brakes are applied beyond a certain threshold? Acura's do it, so i'd be absolutely shocked if an all-luxury, no sport brand like lexus didn't as well

I can agree w that, sucks really bad that this happened though.

I've had this same situation w/ my '69 Camaro. i was making BIG TQ and one of the motor mounts snapped. well that caused the motor to lean hard and the throttle cable got pinched at WOT. I popped it neutral (manual tranny) it quickly began popping off the rev limiter so I shut it down and used my regular brakes to stop. obviously w/ the engine off there was no hydraulic pressure but you can still use your brakes, they just dont bite very hard. Next step would have been the E-brake.

took me all of 2 seconds at most to figure that out thank god. Scared the crap out of me though! I was probably doing 80mph when it happeend.

There's a recall on the ES350s also since they share components with the Camry... Same accelerator problem. I believe it was the IS250/350 which brought the problem to the news first also.

I'm sure they tried to put it in neutral, but I believe the car wouldn't allow it considering they were using full throttle. On a car with a manual gearbox it's probably easier to do this than a computer controlled auto.

It was happening before, if you watch the 3rd link (2nd youtube video) the OP posted, you'll see they interview someone who survived a wreck after the accelerator stuck on her Lexus ES. Didn't see that one in the news because no one died, but it was happening.

I've not heard of any Lexus vehicle being recalled around here, only Toyota. While I wouldn't completely discount Toyota (because they've been good), their quality has gone down compared to the past. I'm surprised people haven't brought that up.

Well when you're in panic mode you can't exactly stop and think things through. Thus the first and logical, thing to do would be to slam the brakes. It's kind of like jumping into a frozen lake in Antarctica (or anywhere that's cold). The cold hits you so fast and your body sends signals to your brain to combat it. What most people (who aren't trained) would do then is to try and gasp for air. Needless to say most of them won't survive.

2007-2010 ES350 is being recalled just like the '07-'10 Camry since they share the same components. The '07 and '08s also have an additional floor mat recall along with the accelerator pedal assembly recall.
