Silverstone Metallic

Hey everyone, I know there is already a Silverstone Metallic thread, but my specific question is for those who actually own a M3 in Silverstone Metallic. I plan on ordering my M3 Coupe within the next week or so, and there isn't a dealer that has a Silverstone model within 300 miles from where I live. I've seen a few pictures online and some of them look silver, and every now and again a picture will show it to look almost baby blueish. I currently have a 2008 335i Coupe in Titanium Silver Metallic and wanted to know how the two compare to each other. Can someone who has a Silverstone Metallic M3 tell me if it ever looks baby blue or ice blue or anything like that? Or if it looks silver (as my Titanium Silver Metallic does). If anyone could take a high resolution picture of their actual Silverstone M3 in good sunlight that would be even more helpful. Any other insight would be greatly appreciated (i.e. it looks blue when it’s dark out, but silver in daylight, etc).

Thank you in advanced!!!

SSII looks nothing like TS metallic... Ive owned both colors and absolutely love SSII... It really never has the same color... Every time you look at it the color changes... It does have a blue hue to it but accents the car very well... SSII is also an M specific color... Different lights change the color. Ex: bright sun is silver around 5pm(sunset) blueish hint... Night looks like a darker silver... It is a stunning color

Just curious why the BMW website calls it silverstone but you guys call it silverstone II?

Has the color being offered changed at any point? I seem to remember seeing silverstone II on the website back in the day.

Agreed. I have SSII and I get compliments about the color regularly, and if I see someone at night and then again during the day, they always say " I didnt know your car was that color" lol. I love it. The fact that its M specific makes it even more special as you won't see a 328 or 335 in that color.

Here you go. Plus one shot inside for good measure.

I love the color - didn't think I would, and if I didn't have the CF roof, I don't think I would like it. It needs the contrast to really set it off IMO, but I get a lot of comments on how unique the color looks in person.

For what it's worth, I would consider it more blue than silver in direct daylight. The pictures I posted are pretty accurate. But it does take on other hues in other light pretty well as you can see with the inside shot. All in all a really interesting color.

Agreed with 1sikbmr as well. All my buddies call it baby blue rather than silver so it's definitely closer to Blue Water Metallic than Titanium Silver Metallic (if you want to talk non-M colors). Even the body shop wrote "Silverstone Blue" as the color of my car

According to BMW USA, its just called silverstone. I guess I'm just curious where you guys got the "II" from. BMW is not calling it that... Whether they did at some point is something I'm not sure of...

Do you think we are all stupid ?We know what color we have. It's a new version of Silverstone which was said earlier in the thread.

Actually, this is for my own education. I'm not questioning anyone's intelligence. I just want to know if silverstone "II" from 08 M3s is different from "silverstone" in 2011 M3s or whether it is the exact same color, just no "II." Am considering trading in my 08 for a new silverstone coupe. If it's different, then I will buy a used one with the previous silverstone...

Silverstone does not look like Titanium Silver...
Silverstone has a blue tint to the color most of the time, but if you park under a tree or next to a grass field...it than picks up a green tint to it.
I think its a great color for the Sedan but not so on the Coupe...just my opinion.
If you wear grey lens sunglasses and look at Silverstone, you will come close to Titanium Silver...

I had just this kind angst over SSII, even after I ordered it. Would it be a baby blue car? But thank goodness, as the posted pictures illustrate, it's not. It will occasionally have a blue-ish hue, but it complements the silver. When I saw it on the lot to pick it up, I had no regrets.

yeah seriously, funny, we don't feel stupid calling it SSII, I dont' feel stupid calling it SSII when I order my touchup paint...BMW interally refer to this color as SSII by name, (it's got a unique paint code number too), it's something you def. don't want to mix up when ordering touch up paint, or paint to respray a body panel for accident repair.

This feels like a dumb question but is SSII (SilverstoneII) the same as Silverstone Metallic? On BMW's website it clearly lists the color as Silverstone Metallic. And on my dealers screen it says Silverstone Metallic (no where does it say SSII or Silverstone Metallic II). I would assume these are two different colors. Can someone confirm that Silverstone Metallic (currently being offered on the 2011 M3) is different than SSII (Silverstone II) that was mentioned in the post above?

Thank you!

*** EDIT ***

Sorry guys, I was interrupted in the middle of my post and when I finally posted it, someone had already asked the same question. So to confirm, what you guys are calling Silverstone II is what www.bmwusa.com is calling "Silverstone Metallic". When was the original Silverstone offered?

+1. I've seen some BMW Individual special orders of M3 in the standard TiAg, and I'm thinking you paid extra for make it look like a 328i's color, you must really love that color.....lol

i believe the SSII was only offered in current generation M3's, M5's, and M6's...that's pretty darn unique.

SSII:
