How so?

M3 is better handling, has faster consistent lap times and in a straight line marginal quicker stock, is more fun to drive with a more exciting engine. The S54 engine is bullet proof. Yes, sure a JB tune makes the 335 faster, but then a horsepower freaks stage 3 turbo kit makes the E46 M3 untouchable by any 335 on earth.

The E46 M3 styling might be dated, but it still turns way more heads than a regular 3-series ever would.

If straight line is your thing, I would say buy a cheap muscle car (say a C5 Corvette from the late 90s) and mod it. You will still have cash left over and have a 9 second car.

Asking what everybody would do is not going to help you...... no one else is going to be driving your car. You need to buy what YOU feel best in. If I wanted a "head turner" I would keep my Challenger, EVERYBODY breaks their necks to see it over here in Germany. But I want a car that is FUN FOR ME, that I enjoy driving and can live with. Pretty sure that a BMW, ANY BMW in the states is head turner, just like my American Muscle car is an attention grabber here.

Good luck and I hope you make the decision that is RIGHT FOR YOU as nobody else here has any stake in what you decide upon!!!

This is a good candidate for the "M3 vs." forum, BTW.
it look pretty bad compare to the e46 m3 though. look is no comparison between the two IMO.

Well, yeah, subjectively, like you say. I appreciate the E9x body for not looking as dated as the E46, even though, yes, the E46 is a classic BMW design. A 335i with the M Sport package (or a 335is) is by most counts a great looking car. Maybe not as classic as the M3 and maybe not as timeless, but against its competition the 335i definitely does not disappoint aesthetically, generally speaking.

the e92 m3 is great looking. but the 335i is not even close. just as the regular e46 compare to the e46 m3, huge different in the aesthetic department IMO.

i agree regular e9x body style is better than regular e46 body style (except the sedan though, the new one looks a bid odd).

I was also thinking about selling my M, but when I had that in mind... I went F/I. I don't regret it and enjoy driving it every single day I get it out of my garage. As for the 335, it is a very nice car indeed, but it lacks the driver/road connection that the M gives. The only car I would change for would be the Z4 M Coupe...

Regardless of the mods, the 335 sounds like a vaccum cleaner. My E46 330 CI with ZHP exhaust sounds a lot better than the 335.
Truth was told.

E46 turns a lot of necks too.

i have had them both and there both great cars. It just comes down to what you want. and it seems to me by reading your post that you want to keep the M but your looking for someone who will tell you that the 335 is a WAY better car and the answer is no its not(IMO). I would just keep the M for now intill something comes along that really makes you go crazy and you have to have it.

E46 still conveys the prestige and prowess of a thriller. The purpose of the 335i is to get a little more fun out of the daily commute for yuppies.

As an E46 M3 owner, I really like 335i.

But living in Orange County, I just hate how everyone has a 328i and the only difference of my car outside is another tailpipe.

I wish the 335i was more exclusive.
