1. time = money and in this case my time is worth more
2. work and family obligations.
3. I'd rather spend vacation on the golf course or beach

All that being said. I'll do it someday when the timing is better. And I won't do it to save money.

Problem is there is more to it that just that
Yes I'd love to spend time with my significant other in Europe
But germany is not where I'd like to go
And sure I can go other places, but that involves most of my vacation being driving time, during break in time, the least fun time to be driving a car.
I'd like to go to Italy, or Spain, but means I'd have to waste several days getting there with associated expenses etc
Yes it's a vacation, but there are too many constraints to make it fun
And to the wife, this vacation will always be about the car.
Not about her, and trust me, that will make the vacation a little less fun
The married folks here will understand.
Hey my wife understood that this vacation was strictly about the car period.

Still we enjoyed three weeks in Europe.

Everyone should. A great experience. Then again if everyone did, they would cancel the program.

I disagree. I lived in Europe for over 10 years and do travel there very frequently for work & vacation and still would not buy a BMW without doing ED.

Let me put it this way..... As long as BMW continues to offer ED, that is the only way I would ever buy one....

Oh and if you have not done ED, you just don't know what you are missing IMO.

Can't wait for my next ED!

There are many dealers that will sell you a ED car couple of hundred bucks over ED invoice since the ED cars do not come out of their allocation. Your savings can potentially be much greater when compared to US MSRP vs ED invoice price.

people who have never done ED will find lots of reasons not to do it.

I would never pass up on the ED trip. I have no intentions of getting another car anytime soon, but I already have a route planned out for the next trip!

An opinion I respect but the realities of the modern world with small children and a demanding job sometimes prevent such things. I will do it at some point, just have not made the time...

Be careful with what you say. You might have some idiots here stating that we are looking to justify our decision. Some people are just too dense to understand. That's why I gave up on this thread.

I do have to admit that I was set to do the ED for the planned brand new car as well. However, then I realized some of the points I made below. In the end it made more sense to me to purchase what I can touch here in Canada. Taking in a nice European trip in a rented car (that does not need the top gas grade) or even by a combination of a EuroRail Pass and car rental works very well too and much less frustration and worry. Fine it is great to have driven your new car in Europe, still do you need the worry and the sleepless nights?

I did my trip to München Germany in 2009 while I was there also went to Dresden, Leibzig and Stuttgart for a VW, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes factory and museum tour and ending it in München at Die Welt for the factory and museum tour there.

I purchased my BMW's in Canada since like others I don't like to wait that long for the car to arrive back home. Also the gas cost in Europe is quite high driving a high performance car needing Super Gasoline. On average a US Gallon will run you close to $12.00 what fun is that then where to park all that worry no thanks.

Besides I like to touch and see what I purchase and thus found just the right car with help of my dealer.

I disagree with one thing Rolf. Just one thing. You really don't have to drive the car there if you don't want to. You can leave it there right after pick up and they will send it back. And you just saved 10 off retail here in the US, not sure how much off in Canada. You can then take the rest of your vacation however you want.

You mention you went to Munich. Well, imagine that day you went to the BMW factory, you actually took delivery of your car. You get all the food and drink you want for free, free tickets to the museum, etc... When you take delivery, you let them know you want to ship it back, and you take off and continue with your trip.

Now one thing I do agree w/ you, the wait for it back home is KILLER!!!!!!!

I discovered European Delivery recently and have done three so far: 2004, 2008 and 2011. I really wish I'd been clued-in 25 years ago. Just like anything else,. it's not for everybody. And contrary to the question put by the OP, I'm happy everybody doesn't want to do it. If they did, BMW wouldn't make the program as special as it is.

SO if you lease the car, what are the benefits of ED? How would you save money?

I got a quote for US and ED and the difference was $100 a month cheaper to do ED and about $600 less for money out of pocket due at signing.

This means for a 36 month lease I would save around $4200 AFTER 36 months.

I am assuming plane tickets to Germany are around $1k, food, hotels, gas, etc. for 4-5 days will be around $3k for just one person. So it seems that it comes close to the same price after 36 months.

This means that on top of putting $4k (let's say) down on the car, I would also need to put another $4k down for the vacation. I don't think I can afford to spend that much for a 'downpayment' on a lease.

ED has always been my dream but it seems like it pays off after a few years not right away.

Opinions for pricing? How much did you guys spend on your vacations?
All thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.

I think they are not figuring the travel expense and just counting it as a vacation. If you add all your costs its more to do ED because your vacation is greater than the savings by far.

No. The minimum savings you get from ED on a M3 coupe would be $4200. Assuming you don't overpay for flights, you should be able to cover a week in Europe on that. I did, no problem.

Talking MSRP, I know one doesn't pay MSRP but MSRP on my car was $75,225. I got my car for $65,500. Big difference in my book. I got a very nice vacation and experience and still saved money.

That's doing things on a budget. I spend 4200 to go to vegas for the weekend. Are you going solo and not eating?

On a side note, I would definitely want to experience ED since a lot of members here have good write-ups about their experience.
