not sure if they will still produce the edge or edge sport but definately i have not seen the edge or edge sport in our local auto shop... unless they have old stock.
In the case of the TWS, it is just a labeling change. The product is still the same. I have no idea what the difference is with the other non-M oils. Most likely just marketing.

In my car trunk I have the same 1 Litre can as you (came with the car from the dealership since I asked for it).

So it is safe to say USA and Canada is the same.

Unless you get an official word from Castrol, it's all just marketing. Castrol has no incentive to change the formulation of the oil as there are very few buyers of the oil and we're pretty much a captive group anyway.

Can someone explain why Castrol TWS is sold in liters rather than quarts despite the fact that everyone else seems to sell oil in quarts and that's how a car's oil capacity is typically listed, at least here in the US (and the M3 says "Add 1 quart" when it's low)? Given that a liter is more than a quart, I'm guessing that this is a common cause of all of the overfill stories on here: Tech sees the M3's capacity listed as 9.3 quarts, empties 9.3 bottles of this stuff in there (for 9.3 LITERS), and has thus put 9.8 QUARTS into the system, or half a quart too much.

I was at the dealer today and saw the liter bottles on the shelves behind the Parts guys. They said Edge Professional, FWIW.

Is there a difference between these bottles of Castrol 10W-60 and the ones that are for the GT-R?

GT-R uses 0w-40.

I've read a thread where they recommend castrol 10w-60 on the gt-r for lots of track use.

Came across this thread.

Other than different API ratings, SJ vs SM. Also a lower viscosity at 100C for the "newer" oil.

IIRC old TWS is Ester base and "new" is PAO.

anyone buy oil recently at the dealer? I'm picking up a bottle this week, it'll be interesting to see if they have left over TWS Motorsport (p/n 07510009420) for me or the relabeled "Edge Professional" (p/n 83122219730).

Both of my dealerships are out. I have one leftover TWS in the oil bag in my trunk; keeping for good luck

FWIW here's a recent voa of the "new" TWS (labelled Castrol Edge Professional TWS 10w60). It's definitely different than the original version - - and in my opinion, better in several respects.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=839626

What impressed me most was the diversity of the anti-wear additive pack. Not just the usual ration of zinc and phosphorous (zddp), but a good measure of titanium and boron, plus plenty of moly (friction modifier). The titanium and boron set up or activate very rapidly in new or fresh oil, forming very hard films to protect engine metals. Zddp not so much. Studies (particularly a Ford/Phillips study) have shown that zddp can take as much as 3000 mi to fully activate and form a protective anti-wear film, which is actually a product of chemical decomposition. Meanwhile, anti-wear performance of zddp is not so good. The Ford study showed that by around 7500 mi the "aged" oil is actually doing a better job of lubricating than fresh oil (measured wear in the aged oil practically zero and greatly improved coefficient of friction or slippery-ness). Hard to believe, i know.

As I was getting oil for my oil change, I found ECS tuning to be the cheapest. Funny thing though (found this thread)....follow the link to see both bottles for sale at different prices...

Wow. That is interesting. The voa I did (link above) is on the $13 version and that is the version my dealer uses. Look at the back of the bottles in the ECS photos. The $13 version is an API SM rated oil and the only "approval", if that's the word, it carries is for M models only. The less expensive version is an API SN rated oil and also includes a recommendation applicable to VW/Audi engines. SN oils are the so-called low SAPS (sulphated ash and phosphorous) oils, many of which are formulated for use in countries with low sulphur gas (e.g. many European countries) and therefore tend to be low in TBN (reserve alkalinity) and somewhat low in zddp - - IF (and this is a big if) the oil is the more prevalent 5w30 or 0w30 weight. At 10w60, I would think BMW/Castrol could do whatever they want irrespective of whether they call it SM or SN.

It may be that the SN oil is for use in Europe or any country/State that has low sulphur gas. But I'd for sure do a voa on the SN oil before using it. Maybe also talk to ECS to get their take on the difference between the two. In a performance oil, SM is the older standard and generally gives the formulator more freedom in mixing the add pack, particularly in the more prevalent 0w30 or 5w30. The BMW High Perf. oil used in the newer M turbo and non-turbo cars is a 5w30 but rated under the old API SM std just to give Castrol more freedom in the formulation (the APi stds applicable to 0w30/5w30 oil in SN are much more restrictive).

Hope some of this makes sense. The SN std does have its plus side. The SN oils are generally much cleaner, less additized oils, that burn cleaner and leave much less deposits in the engine. So in some circumstances the SN TWS may be fine.
