Long term predictions of the E90/93 M3

I was wondering what people think this car will be like once it hits 100k. Will it be problematic and expensive to own like all those cars that are great when new but a nightmare to think about outside of a warranty?

It's a high-performance car with high performance parts. It will be similar to that of older M3's or even 911's.

I'm very likely gonna keep my M3 past the 100k mile mark, and I'm expecting the car to hold up good. Not great, but good.

I think that it will be comparable to the E46 M3 reliability, plus an additional $1000 in maintenance costs.

Agree.
Except short term depreciation is pretty bad compare to E46M3 but in long term, i think it'll be pretty much same. Pretty reliable as long as follows all maintenances.

I was worried about this to when I was considering an M3. It probably won't be as reliable or cheap to fix as an Accord, but you pay to play. Just assume it won't be cheap to fix and who knows, maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised when it does need repairs?

as of how i drive, usually i break 100k in 3.5 years (11 months now i have 33k kms) and so far i am planning to keep this m3 unless something happens. I am 100% satisfied with this car and I have never spent so much time on my previous cars compare to the m3. I hope I get to learn some of the basic DIY stuff along the way and that will save me some cost rather than let the dealership taking care of everything.

I'm hoping it'll hold up pretty good, after all, it is a very well built vehicle. From the way I drive, it'll probably take me more than 8 years to hit the 100k mark as I drive roughly 10k miles annualy...lets just hope for the best but expect high cost maintenance though, I mean, it is still an ///M car.

Hoping for the best here too and doubling the frequency of oil changes... can not hurt in the long run.

I will be sending samples to Blackstone Labs for oil analysis over time to see if the engine wear is worse than anticipated.

I'd say the current level of depreciation is probably due to the economy.

I know a lot of folks that track their E36 M3s. There are certain well known issues that need to be fixed on high mileage cars, but overall the chassis, motor and drivetrain are very strong and will run well into the 200Ks.

I imagine the E9x will be even better.

I plan to keep mine to well over 100K.

"M" stands for money. I'm sure we've all heard this, but do some research on high mileage M5's for comparsion. It's a few thousand here and a few thousand there, pretty soon we're talkin' some real money.

By proper care you mean possibly repairing and replacing things over and over and over? I can assure you, proper maintenance and preventive measures being performed does NOT neccessarily mean "reliable".

Hehe... I believe his "k" in 100k is implying 100,000 and being an american he means 100,000 miles ...

You will still have a few more years to hit 160,000 kms but you definately do drive a lot my fellow canuck

That's assuming that each and every car will have major parts failing left and right..And we all know that's not the case..

And why would you be replacing the same things over and over and over?? Only dealer service centers do that.

Are you actually telling me, that a car with proper preventive maintenance, will be less reliable than one that didn't??

Don't know how long you been or if you even enjoy working on cars..But I'm turning 50 soon.. I owned a couple of "old" cars one of them being a 68 912 and 74 914. One of my fav pastime is tinkering around on a Sunday afternoon.

Anyhow. My point is... Any sort of car care and maintenance..will be better than nothing at all. All the classic car enthusiasts out there from Ferrari's to Corollas prove that. Sure it will cost..I never said it was going to be free or 100% reliable (no car is)

Some people here say a car of warranty would cost a fortune etc.. LOL How much does it cost to buy a brand new one every 3-5yrs?

But back on topic..I don't doubt the current M3 can be made to last a 100k..But for me at least I'd be pretty tired of it by then. Especially with the upcoming turbo.
