Arrow New Toys from Italy - AiM Solo DL

AiM Solo DL has finally landed after months of waiting!

Data/lap time is a powerful learning tool for track drivers at all levels. For the beginner it sets a baseline for objective measurements of your improvements. For the intermediate driver it helps you practice consistency. And for the advanced/pro drivers it gives you the 1/10 needed to beat the competition.

AiM Solo DL is a full capability lap timer/data logger in an incredibly small package which mounts directly on your windshield. 8 MB of internal memory is capable of storing hundreds of laps of data.

When used with M-World’s plug and play ECU harness, the DL integrates directly with M3’s MSS60 ECU for real-time download of 28 channels of data including RPM, wheel speed, brake pressure, steering angle, oil temperature, etc.

First set to be installed on a customer car this weekend

Key Features:

SOLO DL
  • High accuracy GPS-based lap timer and data logger
  • Portable and battery operated: up to 6 hours of operation on single charge, 4 hours with backlight on
  • Predictive lap timing shows real-time comparison between current lap and best lap
  • Drag race mode: 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, 0-60 mph
  • 8MB data logging: good for hundreds of laps and data
  • Professional data analysis software: Race Studio 2
  • OBDII connection: receive basic car data from OBDII port
  • ECU/CAN integration: up to 28 channels of data directly from the ECU including individual wheel speed, individual brake pressure, RPM, gas pedal position, steering wheel angle, oil/water temperature, ambient temperaute plus more
  • Real-time ECU data display
  • SmartyCam integration with data overlay on video

Richard, is there any way to display all the ECU data on a seperate AiM display - since there is only so much real estate on the Solo DL screen?

For Example: Lap Time, Predictive Lap Time, Split Times and speed on main Solo DL Screen .... then RPM, Oil Temp, Water Temp on a seperate display.

Yes instead of connecting a SmartyCam, one can choose to connect a separate display. You can also add an expansion to connect both a SmartyCam and another display at the same time.

Fantastic!

Can I use the standard Solo (non-DL) Display as my additional display ... or does it have to be a specific display, like from the 'MyChron' series?

Also, can you confirm what channels are available from the OBDII S54 DME?

EDIT: Nevermind. I think I found it.

I would recommend using Solo DL as the timing display, and use any of the dashes (MyChron3, MXL, etc.) as data display. Solo (non-DL) does not have integration capability with peripherals.

The list in the PDF is if you connect via CAN directly to the ECU which requires the M-World harness for plug and play. Via OBDII, here's what you get:

RPM
SPEED
Engine Coolant Temperature
Throttle Position
Intake Air Temperature
Manifold Absolute Pressure
Mass Air Flow
Fuel Level

It's never too early! I work with clients in Houston who are relatively new to the track using data/lap timing. The great thing about data is that you can quantitatively know your progress (not just seat of the pants feel) Moreover, there is a basic version Solo here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571305

i'll definitely be keeping an eye on both these threads so i can contact you when i'm ready to buy.

seems like this DL version can integrate the smartycam readily and that's what i'd be more interested in along with the data logging capabilities. PM me a price on Solo DL plug & play package with smartycam please...

for those of you guys who are curious bout what comes in the box, here's a little vid...

take note - this is not the DL version. i have the base version.

so far i've been satisfied with the AiM solo. but i have only had a chance to use it 1 time at the track as i got it at the end of my track season. i wont be doing anymore track sessions until next year unfortunately.

Richard, can the data from the SOLO or SOLO DL be overlayed on video from a GoPro?

Yes. There are a few software out there. One of which is called TrackVision.
