Need some advice on my next purchase

Trade the e90 m3 (weekend car) for a 991 Porsche Carerra S or trade my 2008 Touareg (Daily Driver) for a 2008/9 Cayenne GTS?

991: Personal passion for 911s, near 997 GT3 fast lap times, "base/boring" spec 911, will depreciate quicker

Cayenne: Drives like an M3 SUV, enjoy it everyday, sounds great, looks great, expensive vehicle to rack up miles, a little "too much" for the office / my age (30), still enjoy my Touareg as a Daily Driver

What do you think?

A base boring spec 911 still outperforms your 4 door m3 and is definately more prestigious and special to drive as well.

I am in a similar position. I currently use my M3 as my daily driver and my wife recently had a baby. I thought about replacing the M3 with a cayenne GTS or turbo. We needed to buy a 3rd car for our nanny to use, so we ended up buying an E350 wagon. Now that we have that as a 3rd car I've decided to replace the M3 with a 991 S coupe instead. It will make a great dd, is a blast to drive and the wagon is available when I need to carry more than the 991 can accommodate.

My advice would be to not worry too much about putting miles on a car. I have little interest in buying a car that will spend most of its days sitting in a garage. I drive my cars and enjoy them as much as I can. These cars are way too expensive to just drive occasionally on the weekend. Just about every modern car is going to depreciate quite a bit no matter what, so you might as well enjoy them as much as possible.

Tough decision. I would probably get the new Cayenne GTS and keep the M3. Upgrading from a used M3 to a new Carrera S has to be a much bigger gap than the used Touareg to used Cayenne gap. That's why I suggest the new Cayenne. The new Cayennes are a quantum step up from the old ones.

I'd go with the 911S, keep the VW as a daily.

if you have a "personal passion for 911s" why not look at the 997's (especially if you're concerned about taking a depreciation hit)? you can probably get a fully loaded 997S with low miles for less than a base 991...is there a particular reason you prefer a brand new 911, but would settle for a used Cayenne?

I wanted a 991 C2S but left with a 997.2 GTS.
