That 'real enthusiast' stuff is just propaganda and marketing, IMO. Unless they make tons of BOSS 302s, it's not going to sell at such a low price. The demand is just too high. You're perfectly right that the price is ridiculous for what it's marketed as, though.
Remember, even back in 65 a Mustang GT wasn't the end all in performance cars. Yet they still were and are very collectible as this Boss 302 is going to be. In the scheme of Mustang production they are very limitied, especially the Boss 302LS.

Having a hard time deciding between a Boss 302 or a used 2009 M3... I'm sure my wife would prefer I take the M3 but she is more compromising than I am.

That and the fact I think the Boss will most likely crush the M3 in everything performance related... I would just have to get over the fact I'm driving a Mustang and get used to rowing through gears again (my SMG has spoiled me well on the street and the track).

It almost seems like a comparison between technology and comfort vs a pure do-it-yourself performance car. I also like that Ford promotes aftermarket mods whereas BMW does not (and I won't have to pay the BMW tax).

I don't know what to do!

Get the BOSS, the only reason to choose an m3 over it is if you need the e90 for 4 doors.

i agree, the CEO Allen Molloly (sp?) has really turned that company around and man he has some big brass. he basically told the most powerful people in the country no thanks i don't want your bailout and no i won't take a pay reduction we will be fine. and he did just that. bravo to him.

the products are alot better. my last ford my 06 F250 compared to my buddies 2011 F250 is night and day. my truck feels like it is from 1934 compared to this new one. even the tech inside is top notch. it has a bad ass 5 inch computer screen under the speedo for your readings etc very cool. i drove a friends reg 2011 mustang 6 speed 5.0 and was very impressed compared to older mustangs i have driven. night and day difference

so while the US taxpayer bailed out chumps like GM only for them to pay us back by offering there IPO to forein investors and some select few here in the country, and i think there cars still suck. Ford has really stepped it up above the other american companies. and there stock went from 99 cents to almost 20 dollars a share in less then 2 years. thats a CEO of the year if you ask me

with BMW not making NA engines anymore in there M cars i will most likely get a GT next time around. sad BMW has gone the mass marketing route they have and it seems Ford has picked up where they left off

Agreed.

I just picked up an F150 for one of my businesses. Part of it was they make great trucks. The other part was that I couldn't stomach putting more money into either company that our taxes are already supporting.

I've also spent 3 days in a new 5.0 convertible. While it isn't something that I would consider buying, I can respect the improvements that Ford has made with the new 'Stang.

I have another thread open, I've been thinking about the GT500. I know lot of people prefer the BOSS because of the engine.. but I think the Shelby looks better.. but I'm definitely in a Mustang mode for my next ride.

The Shelby in 2012 has the Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, re-tuned suspensionand and puts out more power (550) compared to the Boss. The Boss is also likely to get a large markup just because it's newer.

The newer powerplant in the Boss is a big plus, as is the 7500+ redline over the GT500.. But since this is going to be a driver, not a track car.. I prefer to have things like Navigation/Ipod/Bluetooth etc in the car with me. I really like the whine of the supercharger.. and have always wanted to drive a blown, rearwheel drive v8.

Either way Ford has made big strides lately.. and with a loaded 2012 Shelby coming in around 53-55k, it's a good deal compared to the m3 (my 2008 was 68k).

I think the pricing of the Boss will make a big difference to me in the end.

Just want to share that a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to ride shotgun on a new 5.0 at the track that I usually attend. The car was a six-speed, mostly stock except for firmer springs, and better tires and pads. The driver was very very good.

Well, I loved the Stang. It definitely felt as fast as my M3 or probably even faster in the hands of this particular guy with great hands. Engine sound was magnificent, handling balance seemed great and wilder (re: more oversteer-prone) than the M3. Couldn´t compare times b/c I wasn´t running my car that day (and the track was in a different configuration) but like I said I wouldn´t be surprised if the stang ran better times.

There is no other car I would get in that price range. This is a driver´s car. I am happy for Ford, it´s great to see an american manufacturer doing such a good job.

Of course the interior and "refinement" sucks compared to the M3 but at that price, who cares? A 5.0 here is less than half the price of an M3. Is the M3 better overall? Yes. Is it better as a performance, driver´s car? Slightly but debatable. Is the price premium over the Stang worth it? Probably not unless you are a BMW lover (like yours truly).

The BOSS can only be even better.

I read that the Boss will start at 36-37k Laguna Seca edition 3-4k more. Pretty cheap for the performance, pretty expensive for shitty interior.

I keep checking the Ford website, hoping to be able to "Build" one for my wife.

Any guesses as to when they might update to the 2012 models? I really don't wish to troll the "Ford" BBoards.

Abject silliness.

First of all, these two cars don't compete. The only reason there's a string in this forum is that Ford said they aimed to beat up on the M3 at their test venue, which of course they'd already done before announcement.

Secondly, how long will it take BMW to build something UP to par with the Ford GT?

Of course, that's also abject silliness, on my part this time.

perhaps, but bmw does not need to compete with another maker..i dont think they should. their cars are good enough as is, and i think they set the standard for other makers
