Believe it or not, I had never seen a Dakar E92 M3 in person, even before I had ordered it.

I saw a couple of way older M3s and one Z3 in Dakar at Bimmerfest.

I just wanted something different, so I took a chance. It really looks good when you are behind the wheel, and can see that Yellow Hood.

I wonder if you were to Back-Out, do you get your deposit back.

Yes, at first I thought the wheel was messed up too, but it was just rubber, I guess from when they put the tire on. It came right off!

All of the sales people stated that I should “Powder Coat” the wheels black. What do you think? I kind of like them stock.

Congratulations! Nice ride.

Wheel color/style is personal. But if you are looking for opinions, would agree +1 on blacking out your rims. Would make it look it meaner.

Absolutely do the rims - there are a few of the Dakar '10 Editions in my area and the black wheels on the Dakar look fantastic.

I did try to get the Edition Wheels, which are Black, but BMW AG rejected that!

I know the exact answer to that, because I tried to order the “Edition Model” which BMW rejected.

The Edition model is NOT available for the USA, but is available for the rest of the World, Europe, Canada, and The Far East… I have no idea why, but BMWs answer to the Sales Manager, was “not available in the USA.”

The Edition model is basically the same as ordering the Competition Package, but you get Black Wheels, and Matching Color Stitching on the seats. The car is also lower too.

Black accents, including wheels, would look great w/ that color. BTW, mind if I ask whether this was a 30th or 40th birthday present? Or somewhere in between? Either way, best gift ever!

I have only driven the M3 for about 40 min, but I would be inclined to agree with you…

I always said that Melbourne Red stood out too much -- draws too much attention from the cops. The yellow is even worse. Other than that . In fact, it looks so good that given the chance for doing individual I might just risk the LEO attention.

Cheers.

I can't believe you bought that thing! Now if it were in my driveway it would be a thing of beauty. I came very close to getting the Dakar but decided it would bring too much attention to it as my DD. There actually was one in stock in a dealer around my place.

Absolutely beautiful car. Congrats and post pics after you are done the detailing.

Congrats and Happy Birthday! Very nicely done on the color and options from what I can see. It's nice to see a bright color on a BMW also.

I would love to have had Electric Red on my M3 but wasn't sure at the time it was a possibility.

Enjoy your car!

A chamois cloth, or "shammy," will give your car swirls and marring in no time. Did the dealer polish your car as well?

Seeing dealers detailing cars turn my stomach........ I told my dealer if they wash my car or remove the plastic shipping film I won't buy it. A lot of cars get more damage to the paint during the dealer prep the they do in the rest of their life.

To the OP, Good job on the Dakar and ZCP...... looks awesome!!!

I will report back next weekend, after I have had a chance to take it through the canyons.

I guess I would say my 135i is like a 300 HP Go Kart, and the M3 is like the Space Shuttle at launch.

By the way, I am keeping my 135i too. I guess now I will be able to do a real hands-on comparison of the N54 and M3 motors first hand.
I did run the 2007 335i and 2008 M3 at the same time for about a year. I did like the pull of the 335 much better. However, my 2011 M3 with intake and exhaust way out performs the 335 in more ways than one. The 335 was certainly missing all of the luxuries of the M3. I would be surprised if your small 135 doesn't feel pretty potent in comparison to the M3.

By the way, congrats on the beautiful car!

I just moved from a 135 JB3 to am E90 M3 two weeks ago. The M is getting more fun to drive every day. It's a totally different way to drive compared to the 1 and quite a but more satisfying. It's faster than a lightly tuned 135 but not buy much.
