I have same noise, driving me crazy as well. Mine just started last week at 76000 miles after I had 2 rear tires replaced. I don't know how it could be related but it was not there before. Mine seems to be coming more from the right rear. I removed the wheel and adjusted the brake shield thinking that a rock could have lodged in there but to no avail. May try switching to winter set and see if it makes any difference?!?

Cool

The only time I heard a clunk coming from my car it was a broken rear diff bolt . Take a look at your diff to just to be on the safe side

Switched out to winter set of wheels/tires and no big suprise noise was still there. However, the bushing for the trailing arm appears to be deteriorating. I'm wondering if the noise is coming from there when the suspension loads and unloads?

I JUST HAD MY 2009 DCT car at the shop last week for the EXACT same noise. EXACT same noise. They told me they thought it needed a new driveshaft. Said coming from somewhere between transmission output and differential. Ie -- driveshaft. I declined to fix it as it's only intermittent -- but it's getting worse so in the next few weeks I'd imagine I'll have fixed.

PLLS let us know what the result / fix was. I'm next up for this repair !

Very frustrating - They THINK its the driveshaft. Sucks for you if you get it replaced - pull out of the shop and the GD noise is still there!

I would get it fixed when you can. Immediately? No. Depends on how hard you drive the car. Try the center support bearing first, inspect that first. Those are much cheaper to replace than the whole shaft. Good luck, keep us posted.

Still waiting. Yet to be determined. Car is actually in for a valve cover gasket replacement and then they're gonna take a look at the noise.

If you're talking about a ping noise sort of like a quick tap on a hollow tube, mine also did the same. It was the u joint in the driveshaft. I changed drive shaft and haven't heard noise since. 25k miles later still no noise.

I have the exact same noise, it does it all the time. I'm at 78k now. From what I've found searching I believe it's slack in the splines where the driveshaft goes into the differential.

Oddly enough every component on my driveshaft visual looked good and felt good when I moved them around by hand. I knew it had to be one component of the driveshaft but couldn't tell 100% which one it was...hence just changing it all with a new driveshaft. If I recall the whole shaft was about $750 and it's an easy job to change it. But that ping noise had me almost selling the car! New drive shaft is best mod I've done so far lol! By the way, I did suspect it to be the ujoint making the noise and it's technically not a serviceable joint on our driveshaft...without modifying it...but could be done, I just didn't want to chance modifying it as it wasn't a huge repair bill anyway.
