Homelink Mirror from 328 to M3 ?? Possible ??

I have a friend of mine who has an 07 328i (E93) and is willing to swap their homelink mirrors with mine...DONT ASK...but somehow the E9x M3s in Canada do not come with Homelink, it is not even an option

Anyways, my friend doesn't use the homelink mirror and doesnt care to have it, can we simply swap mirrors?

Slammed, my M3 (e92, 2009) came with the Homelink mirror, and it also has the compass on it (not sure of the use of the compass, with navigation, but however...).

Hope that helps. You could likely order the Homelink mirror and have it retrofitted.

Good luck

Ya mine has the compass. I think it looks the same but the clown nose may not stick out as far. I'll try to get a hold of my CA but I'm 99 % sure he just swapped it out.

My E90 did not come with the Homelink either and it's something I wanted as I got really used to it on my E46. So I asked my dealer to quote me the price to order one and install it.

They informed me that it is possible to swap the non Homelink mirror with a Homelink one as long as your car is pre-wired for the feature (I think most cars are). My dealer also informed me that once the swap is done, some programming would have be done in order to activate it.

Needless to say that at a cost of over $1,000 to achieve this, I resorted to installing my garage door opener remote in my ashtray and using that instead.

Hopefully this helps you decide what to do.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE ALSO CURIOUS ABOUT THIS:

The answer is YES, it is possible to just swap the mirrors. My BMW service advisor told me I needed a retro-fit cable for the wire harness and that I would likely need to have the car programmed as well, (which would cost about $120 for 1 hour of programming + $65 for this cable).

However, none of this is true. I simply swapped the mirrors and I programmed my garage doors to it. Thats it! No programming or wiring was needed

That's great news! Thanks for the update.

Now if only I can find someone with a Homelink mirror they don't want.

Yep! Find someone with a 328/335 going back on lease or selling it.

yes, this is correct- BMW service advisors have no idea what they are talking about....

There is no programming.

There is no additional harness....

All you do is remove your factory mirror, swap ANY bmw mirror you want onto it plug the harness back in. All of the wiring harnesses are the exact same....

That is what i did to my non premium package car- just swap mirrors with someone that doesnt care about cars. they will never miss it.

Another successful mirror swap.

I took a homelink mirror off a BMW X5 which had homelink, compass, and the short clown nose. Worked just fine on my 2009 M3 which does not have the premium or tech package.
