Semi-extended leather interior

I have a Fox Red interior. I did not order extended leather because I don't like the lower dash in this color, but I do want the red console. I posted a few months ago about the idea of doing a "semi-extended" leather application.

The red console is part #51-16-7-901-953. The good news is there's finally a price listed for it - $774. The bad news is that there are none available in the system, even in Germany. With club discount, that's about $675. I think it could be self-installed. I may put in an order.

Absurd price. You could probably find matching leather and have it recovered for less.

+1. That seems like it is 3 times as much as it should be at least. Damn! Greg, you got some $$$$$$.

Go for it! It is your money and if you like and want something and if you can afford it why not. Also it will look original with stitching and texture etc.

I've just ordered the BMW Performance CF interior to replace the leather CF look alike. I am starting with the dash and will gradually do the rest of the interior.

It might look odd to only have the center console wrapped...would be cool to see the result though...

I don't think so. If you look at the interior, the doors extend the leather color up to the dash on the sides. The console would be consitent in the center of the car.

This might indeed look good. I agree with Swamp that pricing is OT though. It would look even better with the VS CF center console trim only, but to the best of my knowledge, that is not sold seperately.

I might follow your lead on this if it works!

I believe it was around $550, but they're quick for getting quotes.

Even of you were to get it, how would you install it? Looks like installation would be very expensive....

It seems like a pretty easy DIY to me. Shift and brake boots pop off. Then the top of the console pops off. Unplug some wires, the ash tray, then there are some screws toward the front to undo. Now comes the part I haven't done before and that is getting the rear part of the center console free. I assume you need to pull up the cover where the phone adapter would go first and that would give you some access to other screws. There are wires back there too, depending on options you might have, but I'm sure there are harnesses making it easy to unplug. So I don't think this is rocket science. I can do everything up to the rear in less than five minutes. The rear part I've not done, so I don't know how much more it would take, but if it goes as easily as the first part, then this is really a piece of cake. And it's probably a lot similar to install. Just IMHO.

Cheers.
