The car has 500 miles already (4 days old) and I am obeying the break in rules while still having some fun. Took her on some great Nor Cal twisty roads (2nd and 3rd gear corners) and was blown away by:

1) How much this car does NOT feel like my 335i (I was obviously high when I took my test drive and wrote that other review)
2) How torquey the V8 is, even <5500 rpm. It is easy to go fast even at those mundane, AMG-like revs.
3) How much front-end grip the car has. I was going pretty hard and never once had an understeer
4) How great the LSD feels: You can feel the power transfer to the outer rear wheel and just slingshot the car out of the corner
5) How neutral the car feels: On power it feels dead neutral and, if anything, it seems like the rear may break first (will need to wait until track day to find out)
6) How great the V8 sounds: at a 1/4 throttle is it pretty subdued, and then you hit it a little harder and you hear the V8 start gobblng air through the left nostril on the hood - awesome intake effect - check it out for yourselves!
7) How much everyone want to race you! - I have owned my 335i for a year, and in 4 days more guys have gawked at the car and/or tried to race me than in that whole year.
8) How crappy the gas mileage is: Managed an honest 20.3 MPG over 120 miles cruising on the highway with traffic (60-80 MPH) and coasting down hills in neutral. Seems to be improving a bit - saw about 22 MPG on computer read out (which is 1 MPG optimistic). Get 14 MPG when pushing it.
9) How fantastic the car looks - They definitely got the looks right on the 4-door - the wheels stuffed under the flared fenders looks bitchin', the side vents and nostrils add a nice touch, and the front air damn looks aggressive
10) How much I love my M! - They nailed it with this car. The integration of the EDC really changes the attitude of the car, the engine is spectacular, the throttle response is what I have been missing the past year, the handling is beyond my expectations (even as the owner of an E36 M3 race car). The car is terrific - and I still haven't exceeded 5500 RPM!

Pics tonight!
My 335 had the M-tech kit, BBS rsgt wheels, coilovers, rear spoiler, and I never got any attention. The M really draws a crowd and a lot of gawking. I experienced this with my e46M3 as well but to a lesser extent.

The mileage does improve. On my trip home from Whidbey todasy my computer said 27. I now have 1800 miles on the odometer. One thousand miles ago it was 23.5.

This is my favorite BMW to date, but I did love my 335 as well.

Of course the M3 is going to be a better car... it costs 50% more than the 335. I would hope that a 335 would never beat out an M3 on the road... Personally I am jealous because I want an M3 tomorrow but have decided to wait another year. Congrats man!

Congrats on your new ///M! I liked the analogy of the hot girl and the 335!

You will discover just how hot your new girl is once you're done with the run-in!

There's something about the M3 that makes it that little bit more special than the 335i

It must be nice if you have pictures but it can wait. Youre observations are dead on spot. Happy driving and don't mind those other drivers because you don't need to prove anything to them.

I agree, it's the $25,000 extra that makes the M3 more special. Not to mention the 220 mile range on a tank of fuel.

All in all though I love the M3 as well, however I just can't justify a car, any car costing $70K+ that eats more than I do. For me it’s not a money issue, I paid cash for my 335i but for $70K+ there are other cars that need a second look before the M3. A Corvette to name just one. The Corvette will pretty much eat the M3 while getting 30 MPG on the highway.

All those extras on the M3 with our speed limits and traffic in the US make it very hard to ever use it. The average driver can't even push even the 335i past its limits without killing themselves and most drivers never try.

First off, there's no reason to crap in this guys thread. He got a sweet new ride so let him enjoy it. We don't go over to new owners of 335is and call them poor, do we? Common courtesy among 335i owners is lacking. Seriously, way to shit on this guys thread because he upgraded to the M3.

Secondly, it IS a money issue for you and since you think the Z06 is so good the base Vette will walk your 335i so why aren't you driving that? The Z06 also gets 15/24 city/highway. No one will ever be able to push a Kia legally on the highway either, so what is your point exactly? Upset that he drives a M3 and you don't? Sad. Go back to troll school.

Who is harassing who? Are you the OP, if not it seems like you have the issue.

Take a few deep breaths and go back to work.

Looks like we have a self absorbed troll, the best of the worst.

This is a public forum so expect criticism from other people based on what you say. Difficult concept I'd imagine.

Actually everything in my post is true (Standard Vett. 30mpg). I didn't exaggerate at all. I did mention that I too like the M3.

I suppose Truth is truly a Difficult Concept for some people.

Yes, you really like the M3 enough to come here and tell us how it's a waste of money and that the Vette is so much better. I suppose being "true" is a lot like being facetious. Silly troll.

Don't let the door hitcha on the way out. Its truly amazing how motivated people become by ego, and yet how how blatantly unaware they are of that fact. Hey I do it too sometimes. But damn if I don't check myself on it just as often.

Anyway, e36jakeo - congrats on the decision. Like Lazslo (yes I read this forum way too much) you finally came around. I can relate to you guys a bit because I love the wife's 335i and for a long time I was convinced it would be a 335i for me this time instead of an M. I feel like I'm the only one here without an E9X M3 now, lol. I will have one by next spring, damnit.

During the past five months I never even considered silver since a silver BMW is a bit of a stereotype. Then I noticed it is not your ordinary silver. It has a touch (very small touch) of green in it in certain lights. I think the contrast between the silver and the black hood vent and side gills, plus the nearly matching 18" rims looks bitchin'. I am super happy with it!

BTW, I checked into the speed cloth and thought is was not very high quality, plus you lose the nice Novillo leather armrest if you go that way. The leather in the m3 is 10x nicer (softer, more supple, high quality) than the 335i - well worth getting!
