Best intake upgrade?

What have you guys done short of supercharging to improve your air induction? Looking for results. I put a K&N system on my Boxster years back and noticed only a modicum of change- nothing to get too excited about. Any ideas? Thinking about the Mechunik scoops also. Gotta be a way....

Forget scoops, they are worthless. I went with AA filters. One of the side made of metal so it won't deform like my AFE did.

Melted? I have an AFE and now you have me worried? I know for sure the OEM isn't metal. Was this during normal driving?

When I cleaned my filter last time (AFE), it wouldn't seat back on the elbow properly. No idea what happened, it's been on the car for about 15k miles. My last Blackstone analysis said the oil was clean of contaminants, but I wanted to safe than sorry.

The stock airbox is an excellent design.

You'll see very minimal gains with any air box related mod. I do have the AA filter, and noticed the car sounded as if it was breathing a bit better - the induction noise at 3200rpm was 15% louder.

As for the RPI scoops that I put in, I just like the look of a little red in the nostrils. I'm not sure if it does anything, there is a pretty strong crowd on both ends of that debate.

Just to help you out a little. Airbox looks good (top arrow), but not so much where the bottom arrow is.

+1, no need to mess with it aside from acoustics and letting more dirt in.

From what I read and what people who track often told me:

Keep the stock airbox, get a drop-in filter like Active Autowerke Performance Air Filter (AA Green Filter).

Off topic:

I also heard that underdrive pulley kit upgrades are not worth it either and that it can mess with other functions and raise temps.

A few people (minus maybe Dinan) said if they had to do it over again, they wouldn't have bothered with pulleys. I won't even bother trying to mess with that.

Filter + stock airbox. We have yet to see anything but negative gains on our dyno from additional changes.

If you can't pony up the money for a MS stg2 or a Dinan system, just stay 100% stock. A drop in will gain you nothing, but instead of replace down the road, you can wash and re-oil.

Lots of claims from all sides: not worth it, no gains, power loss, power gains, weird steering noises (another thread), hotter temps (another thread).

I will have to try an intake upgrade + underdrive pulley upgrade and see for myself since I don't plan on supercharging or going stroker (at least not until after I get a BBK and Coilovers).

I put an AA filter in my car. When I opened up the airbox to install the AA filter my stock filter was BLACK and totally filled with leafs and shit so I cleaned the airbox out obviously put the AA filter in and went for a ride. Holy shit the difference was dramatic I swear I picked up 60hp lol. No but seriously going from a dirty clogged stock filter to the clean freer flowing AA filter was a nice gain and the construction of the filter it's self is very nice. I highly recommend it.

Agree with everyone else on here. Replace the stock filter and leave it be.
No worth while gains to be made.

If you have the funds for a full intake just get a drop in AA filter and Megan axle back!!
