Quick Question

I am getting the 2011 E90 ZCP M3 with the 19' rims. Is it a problem to switch out the 19's for 18's for a winter rims set? Or will that mess up the handling because the car is tuned for 19's?

Thanks

tuned for 19s??? you can use 18s if you want and you get some 20s if you want for the summer. It won't make any difference

As long as the overall diamter is the same as OEM, or very close to it.

Cool......... do you HAVE to have the tpms sensors, or can you get away with not having them in the Winter set?

As long as you don't mind staring at the TPMS light you don't have to have them. The OEM sensors for 2010+ are of course, much more expensive than the older ones but I figured, what the hell, and added them anyway.

Dumb question: How do you add the sensors to the wheels???
What do you need to look for on the wheels in order to install them?

They're installed inside the wheel and the tire covers them so you won't see them.

Non-ZCP cars use the same exact suspension and programming regardless of whether they have 18" or 19" wheels from the factory.

Now, according to BMW's marketing, they have specifically tuned the ECU in the ZCP cars to account for the wider track afforded by the wider, more offset, 359M ZCP wheels. However, in reality switching to the stock 18" wheels won't make a noticeable difference. In fact, switching to really any wheels you want (that clear the brakes) won't be a problem as long as you keep the rolling diameter the same as (or very close) to stock, like quality_sound said above. Lots of people of the forum run completely different offsets, widths, non-staggered setups, in the winter and the car handles fine.

Thanks for the feed back........... found a decent set of tires and rims packaged and delivered for 1400 out the door. Sounds like a fair price... Hankook Icebear tires and a generic run of the mill rim, but with the winters over here and the road salt, I am less inclined to get pissed if the rims take a beating.

You want to be sure the wheels have offsets that are close to your standard setup, the hub bores need to be the correct size to pilot the wheels on your hub, and many 18" wheels do not clear E9X M3 brakes.

Well the site said they are for the E90 M3.... when it gave me options for winter tire and wheel packages for the E90 M3.... it was the only rim that popped up. Maybe I will give them a call and get a verbal verification.

Thanks for the heads up!!! Much appreciated

Actually, as long as the bore is the same size or larger you're fine since you can use hubcentric rings to center the wheels.

Ask if the wheel hub pilot requires adapter rings or if the wheel bore is the correct size. Using adapter rings is ok. You just have to keep track of them and be sure to use them.

It's a fucking car... drive the damned thing. Why spend $60K ona car for it to sit in a garage half the year? It's not like it's a classic Ferrari or something. It won't melt if it gets wet or snowed on. I promise. Madness I tell you.

edit: Not directed at you directly. This was a just a rant on the silliness of the act.
