Best Tire brand & size for e92 m3 CP.. 19" ZCP

Just got a 2011 e92 m3 Competition Package, so the tires I have now are 265 in the rear, i thought it should be 285 for more grip, also what are the best brand? I figured the Michelin Pilot sport's or super sport would be the best, anyone thinks they know of a better tire please let me know, thank you. Also I drive it on the street, daily.

I'm not convinced that width=grip is a correct statement. I say it's more about tread compound and design, sidewall design and tread depth.

Nonetheless, I have 295/30/19 PSS on my ZCP E90 and I'm very happy with them. Well, I don't have them on right now - they're just stacked up in storage. Right now I have X-Ice 3 245/40/18 ... ugh.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

I like the 255/275 PSS combination for street. Gets just the right grip in first and fits the zcp rim width really well. So close to stock rolling that the mdm (especially euro) works fantastically. Also very cosmetically pleasing, just the right tire beef. Hope this helps

thank you all, so i guess most will agree the PSS are probably what you want, I would be interested in trying the 255/275 PSS set up to see how it feels, with the OEM spec i feel like its too tail happy, i want it to hold more in the turns. : )

Yeah the zcp wheels are actually a half inch wider than the regular 19's. Bmw probably just didn't want to source another size tire for a package. Hence 255/275 seems perfect for them. You won't be disappointed

Tire width has a great deal to do with traction and control of the car. The stock tires are rubbish. I run 305 rears and it does wonders for my control and grip

GTS sizes 255/35 & 285/30 on ZCP wheels. I like the additional grip on the rear but not so happy with the heavier feel on the fronts when turning

Side wall ratio has more to do with grip then sheer throwing a wider tire on the car. There is a reason drag cars have 40 plus ratio side walls and not 30s on 305. A tire that is just wide but has no give equals no grip. Ofcourse this changes as you move on to a racing compound for say r888s or NT-01 even piloit cups but regualr street performance tires not so much.

All good points, my only advice is keep the stock stagger of 20-30mm difference if Handling is ur priority. BMW engineered it likeep that for a reason...

Also the wheel width is not the same as the contact width. Michelin PSS have "wide shoulders" so a 275 Michelin PSS actually has a wider contact surface than say A Hankook via evo.

the first number in a tire size is the width at the fattest part of the tire..again different than the contact point.

I've run 3 settings, oem 245/265...Hankook 255/275...now PSS 265/285...

In my humble opinion 255/275 was the perfect balance. Current setup 265/285 michelin PSS rub with a 1" drop. That's with a 35% aspect ratio and 25mm offset.

A 30% AR would rub less but lessen traction and make for a bumper ride.

I use the 255/275 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 - Y rated
I love them. They seem more grippy than the summer perellis that came with the car....
The perellis on the back lasted maybe 8k miles and were horrid in the cooler months
Just replaced my rear Michelins after 24k miles these puppies last

MAYBE slightly lessen traction in a straight line. But stiff sidewalls are essential to good handling.

Rougher ride? Agreed.

When I had the stock contis at 245/265 and stock MDM, after about 6k miles the car was always skittish due to crap tires and intrusive MDM.

Then I got stock size 245/265 Michelin PSS. They were great...still broke traction enough to get the DSC to kick in which was annoying. This thread made me realize that right after I got Euro MDM, I never really break traction bad enough to snap my head forward. In other words I get to retain the quick steering front end feel with the stock slight understeer nature of the car. The tiny bit of extra slip angle the euro MDM provided was the trick.

PSS is the best tire also. Cannot be happier.

If you are breaking traction on the street you are driving too aggressively. Slow down. There are plenty of places to hoon your car legally.

If you are looking for general use tires instead of dedicated track day tires, the Pilot SuperSport is the only way to go.
