Lightbulb Copying Music to HDD

Each time when I copy music to the HDD it opens a new folder on iDrive. So lets say I have 10 albums on my flash drive - it makes a master folder called usb and subfolders with the music under that.

When I then copy more music at a later stage - it creates a usb1 folder with the new music under that sub folder.

So then you have multiple usb / 1 /2 / 3 etc folders. Is there a way to get all my music under one main folder?

I know I can probably delete all the music on the HDD each time and copy them back at one time - which will solve the problem - but is there an easier way?

This one perturbs me also and I haven't found an elegant solution yet. I have to do what you mentioned, wipe the drive clean and copy an updated copy (I keep my base copy on a 16gb SD card and just copy new songs to it once in awhile when ready to move them to the car.)

Deleting the music collection
1. "CD/Multimedia"
2. "Music collection"
3. Open "Options".
4. "Delete music collection"

(Page 176 of the manual)

From what we have observed, the key is to leave at least 1 album on the flash drive since the previous import.

I don't remove the mp3s off the flash between imports so I don't have this problem.

A semi-related question... if you transfer from a flash drive instead of from CD, does it still compress the music to store it on the HDD?

Judging from the speed of the import, it does not re-compress the mp3s.

No... compression (and WAV conversion) only is performed from CD imports.

so what's the best recording quality that should be done on the USB drives? 320?....less? I'm not concerned about space as I am about music quality.

I use lossless WMA on a 16G thumb drive... haven't copied anything to the HDD yet, though, since I (apparently incorrectly) assumed it would compress it.
