BMW Performance Steering Wheel breaks down?

My friend told me that the Alacantra on the BMW Perforamance Steering Wheel breaks down and that I need to wear driving gloves. Does it break down faster than a normal steering wheel? Just curious and asking for 2cents.

Thanks!

Alcantara is definitely more delicate than leather. I use gloves for mine. The oils, etc from your skin makes the material break down.

I told them that they couldn't use my pic without permission. Time to get the lawyers involved.

I owned an OMP Alcantara/suede wheel in my previous car. I would say in about 2-3 years, the thumb points were worn, and it'll turn smooth, but to me, it's alright, because it's still grippy. It's mostly my own oil, so it's okay for me. Explain it to your friends and they don't really want to drive your car.

Just use hot water and wipe it down......then use a electric toothbrush to fluff it.....Phil

I wish the performance wheel came in leather. I'm not a fan of the fuzzy wheel. It looks out of place considering nothing else in the car is alcantara.

Alcantera will build up oil from your hands and your alcantera steering will look like shit.

However, you can clean up alcantera with electric toothbrush, warm water, microfiber towel and 15-30 mins of extra time.

I'm sure it will wear out some points but so far owning for 3 years of PSW, it is still holding it well . (no gloves. just electric toothbrushes only).

I think EAS makes custom wheels. Hey EAS! If I buy a performance wheel can you re-wrap it in leather?

It looks nasty really fast if you don't wear gloves. No thanks.

I just clean mine every other week. Looks as good as new. If you are too lazy to maintain it, I would never recommend it as it will end up looking pretty nasty within a year.
