My Car likes dealer more than me...

Well I bought a 2008 M3 Convertible on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Check control said it needed rear brakes, a light bulb and I wanted to replace a chip in the dct shift knob. I took her to dealer on December 8 and they advised that they would do brakes, replace bulbs, change oil and install new wipers (car has 26k miles). They also advised that the dct software would be upgraded and the shift knob was covered under warranty but would have to be ordered to be installed later.

Picked up car Thursday night and half-way home I get a dsc malfunction. Friday I tell dealer that I have an edc issue, cruise no longer works, car shifts by itself from 1-2 in manual mode and after shut off it shows a shock absorber with an exclamation point. They say drive carefully and bring in next week when the shift knob comes in.

So on December 15 I drop off car. Not ready until December 20, and when I pick up car I find that everything is fixed except I still get, after shutting off car, a shock absorber with an exclamation point. So I go back to dealer at lunch and on Wednesday I get a call, part is in, being installed. On Thursday, I get a call, we need another controller, its on its way. Today I get a call, they have to order another part and the car will not be ready until next Wednesday as the part will not arrive until late Tuesday.

Sad...I think my car must hate me.

I do have a 2011 328i loaner so at least I'll save 600 miles of wear and I can always drive my other car:

Honestly, I think you are letting the dealer walk all over you. There may indeed be an issue that they are trying to fix, but with the way you've been describing things, they are hiding something.

What do you suggest he does than? Realistically what would you do? You try to keep picking the car up and there are ongoing errors and problems. They diagnosis a problem, fix it and another one appears or remains. They order parts and put you in a loaner. Are you going to go complain about what... Is he going to diagnosis the problem himself and suggest a course of action? realistically I do not think he has any options and atleast they are being persistent and fixing it.

I do not think this is uncommon. Not saying the dealers are dopes but they are far from diagnosticians and simply follow computer readouts for the most part. Sometimes it it clear cut and sometimes its not and that is where they tend to struggle.

Is this a typo Tuesday, December 6, 2008.

Should the 2008 here read 2011? I seam to recall in another post of yours you just purchased this 2008 M3

If indeed you just purchased this 2008 M3 then I must agree with others here that the dealership is pulling a fast one on you and are hiding something. Why would they sell you a M3 that needs a brake job for example ?

Is this a certified car? Did BMW not inspect this car before they sold it to you?

I wonder what other surprises this car will have in store for you. I can understand how you feel. Hope things work out for you.

Good Luck !

PS. BTW I like your Corvair, very nice car ... your mountain chalet is very nice as well!

Why have you started another topic about this. You already have one going, and now you are adding more things that have happened. What gives?????

I think in his mind it is two different topics. First one was about whether or not the dealer was acting normally. But now that he is convinced that there was no foul play, he's made a new thread just to vent a little. Maybe a little redundant, but I can see where he's coming from.

That Corvair looks unsafe even just standing still. Just kidding. It's actually a nice looking ride.

To Von Zoom, if this is a redundant topic why are you posting in it? Are you the topic police? The first thread was about detailing, this is about my continued repair. Sorry that I bothered you with two threads.

I bought the car on 12/6/11, sorry. I bought from an offleaseonly place, not from the dealer, though the car was sold and serviced at Braman Miami. I use Braman West Palm Beach

Why would they sell you a M3 that needs a brake job for example ? It was a routine car needs brakes in 4k miles service

Is this a certified car? No, but still under factory warranty

Did BMW not inspect this car before they sold it to you? No.

I suspect that they are a little in over their head and just throwing modules at it until they get it right. I am not upset, just sad because I want to drive my new to me car.

Cruise control won't work if there are faults in EDC, DSC, or ABS modules - or with DSC off.

I had the same error as you on my E60 M5, and the dealer wound up replacing one of the struts to correct the issue.

The M3 is a very reliable car. I have had mine for 4 years almost and no issues..

That is correct, any electronic malfunction results in cruse control NOT working.

Well I bought a 2008 M3 Convertible on Tuesday, December 6, 2008.

Thanks for the clarification ... you should change the 2008 in your original post to read 2011. Otherwise it does create confusion.

Hope all works out for you in the end and you can enjoy your new find.

Cheers

You should have kept your Z4M. lol jk

I bought my M3 about 3 weeks ago and haven't driven it since I took delivery. The car needs some work before I set foot in it. LOL I know that sounds lame but this car in OEM form needs some work to get to where my Z4M was and looked. Hopefully it will be all done in the next week or so and can finally drive it.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with your M3. That really blows. It could be a lemon possibly. Hopefully they will fix it and you will be back on the road. Don't sweat it. Good things come to those who wait, well most of the time that is.
