My first footage from a quadcopter (DJI Phantom)

Yes, the car is absurdly dirty. I was camping on dirt roads.

How much post processing? Quality looks great. It works be cool to follow the car from behind and then pass along the side, but great first attempt.

Smile Very cool !

I have wanted to do this as well, the shots look great man ! Love seeing the California landscape - one thing, how is it that you can deploy the convertible top whilst the car is moving ? I think it's neat that you can do so, but surprised that BMW does not force you to come to a complete stop while lowering or raising the top..

Do some more with the DJI - perhaps capture the 'corkscrew' (Lombard) in the city, that'd be a cool vid...

Cheers,
Merlin

Thanks.

For the convertible top I have a module called SmartTOP that lets you adjust the maximum speed that it lets you put it up or down (also open/close from the remote key). I hated getting stuck at green lights while it was still going up or down. I think I have it set at 15MPH. Definitely need to be careful going over bumps or going too fast. It almost certain voided the warranty.

Most of the clips are slowed to 50% speed, and there's some slight exposure adjustment, otherwise not much. The gimbal (Tarot 2-axis) is the key to getting stable shots like this.

I got the DJI Phantom 1 and added a Tarot T-2D 2-axis gimbal (which isn't trivial to install but not too hard).

Or, if you don't want to install a gimbal yourself, you can get the DJI Phantom 2 with Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal (which is a 3-axis gimbal, so even better)

(I like the Phantom 1 because it uses standard $20 LiPo batteries vs. the Phantom 2's $160 proprietary batteries, but the flight time of the 1 is about half of the 2)
