Most affordable tires?

Is there anything out there more affordable than Vredestein? I've been happy with them and actually gotten a lot of miles, but it's been a couple years since I searched around and was curious if anything new had come around.

Do you want "affordable" or "capable" tires?

Lots of affordable brands, Hankook, General, Nittos

Best value and capable tire hands down has to be the Michelin PSS.

I'm not overly concerned with performance right now, no track days for a long while. I'm shooting for $/mile at this point.

Its not just performance you get from PSS..they are probably one of the best handling tires in the wet and have a very good tread life. For what they cost and what you get.. its a no brainer to me.

Check Tire Rack for your sizes. There may be some cheap tires available. I will be paying the premium for the PSS since they have a 300 treadwear and they are a top performer in both wet and dry. Not much wear versus performance tradeoff there -- just a price that is on the high side.

The Hankook V12s are great tires and seem to last forever. The PSS are supposed to be great as well, but they do cost more.

Honestly, if you're not on the track then I really don't see too much of a difference performance wise. I always see people on here comparing their new tires by doing a "canyon run" or "twisties". Come on... that's kind of a joke. Any difference felt in grip could easily be attributed to the fact that it's a newer tire. Unless you're hitting their limits repeatedly it's difficult to tell. Ride comfort is a different story.

Seeing as you haven't checked around for tires in a couple of years I'm assuming you haven't replaced them for the same amount of time. If that's the case then why are you looking for an affordable set? Just pick up some PSS and enjoy them for the years to come.

TOTALLY agree. Anyone who's pushing ANY of these tires to their limits on the streets is being an ass. There's NO WAY you could safely drive any of these tires to their limits on the street. It's not even that safe on the track to hit their limits. I have some Hankook V12's on the wife's and they're fine for regular driving. Vreds have been killer for the price and even tracked on them a few days. Ride comfort, longevity, and noise are the main points to consider for street driving, IMO.

Think in what type of car you drive and how much hp.....???
Your car only contact point with the road is.....yes....your tires !!!
I'm driving now more than 30 years high performance cars .....and i have
see things.....believe me !!!
So i prefer to invest a few hunderd Dollars(in my case Euro's) more in
a good tire...and i can read tires tests !!!
And think.... also about how many costs a accident with a ///M3 ???
Not to mention that an accident can be fatal due to a poor tire choise !!
That's why.....i am not agreed !!!

I don't really see what any of this has to do with making the choice between PSS and a cheaper max performance summer tire like the Hankook V12s.

OP:
I don't have any experience with the Vredsteins but I do have the Hankooks. If you are genuinely looking for best $/mile without completely sacrificing performance I think there are cheaper choices than the PSS. Given the PSS will likely be a more comfortable ride and is a superior tire. Hopefully they last longer than the PS2s. I know the tread rating is higher. Not sure if they last as long as the V12s (or maybe they last even longer). The tread rating measurements aren't exactly equal across manufacturers so it's hard to tell.

Can anyone who has had both PS2s and PSS comment on tread life?

Sorry dude, but you're not making any sense here. All the tires mentioned are from REPUTABLE tire companies, most with racing experience. So how does that make one better than the other for normal street driving... that 99% of the forum does?
How often do you track your car? And what tires do you run when you track?

.

You mentioned $/mi and I have to say the PSS are the way to go. I am on my second set of rear Nitto Invos and getting to replace them all now with the Mich PSS as they are just a few hundred dollars more than the Invos (which weren't a bad tire at all) its just they don't last as long as the Mich PSSs and when you factor this in the Mich PSS are a good deal.

However, any of the tire manufacturers mentioned make a reputable tire. What sizes do you want to run?

Also, the Vredstein are pretty inexpensive..don't know how much cheaper you can go.

Dave

Good call man..they also make a 285/30/19 size which they didn't make before.

OP, I've tried several "value" tire sets over the past several years. Goodyear Asymmetrics, Pirelli, Bridgestone (shudder...) - and Michelins have consistently had less faults, better wear, and higher performance wet or dry. Obviously it depends on the performance, but the tires are the only things that stick you to the road - in an M3, really recommend you spend money on tires, and save money elsewhere.

Oh, and I'm a big fan of Michelin PSS.

Cheers

100% Agreed, on a car making 400+HP, tires are not something you want to skimp on

Tires are not just all about grip when tracking...tires are just as important for braking..
