Will tightening Driver Side Window Cause Tint Damage?

Long story short, annoying rattle turned out to be driver side window rubbing against the seals. Took it in to get tightened. Tech strongly recommended against tightening the window as that would cause damage to the tint (streaks due to opening/closing the window would develop after a few weeks). He refused to do it without me sleeping on it.

Now I have a tire bubble which probably means the tire needs to be replaced and warrants another visit (not sure whether wheel warranty covers this or the regular car warranty).

At any rate, the rattle is annoying but I suppose the streaks on the window would be worse. What do you guys think?

Streaking on tint will happen either way. But I can tell you that it doesn't look great when it's really bad.

I suppose if you tighten the window seal, it will rub more and will cause more streaks faster and earlier.

I also have a few rattles here and there (noticeably the speaker area on the driver side door) but I just attribute it to the car's character...

Good luck with yours.

either way, it will rattle so just leave it....rattling in this car is inveitable...so either u get it sooner and get used to it to the point where u dont listen for it, or u still get it later...i dont know if id want him tightening it...my e46 window is pretty dam loose and got that way over time...but when its new, i fear that too tight may cause issues later...also, u dont want the window streaks...thats annoying too...esp if u always roll them up and down

Put E9x on your freaking signature/avatar folks . We have to be guessing which darn car you're talking about .
No issues at all with either window rattling or tint marks on my coupe. But yes, it has many other noises . By the way, window is not going to rattle if fully closed or open, so just keep it in one of those positions and problem solved. Or if really loose, it doesn't have to be tightened to hell. Again, maybe sedan is different, but no such problems on the coupe. If it's a coupe, just get it tightened to where it should be. I'd obviously do that myself, but if you want a dealer to do it, make sure they have another M3 to do it right. Good luck.

Just rev it high so that you wll not hear those rattle.
I just accepted the fact that as the car get older, specially in a sport car, the more rattle it will have. The hard suspension will take it toll to the interior parts.

Yup it's a coupe. It seems like tint guard and tightening is the way to go!

how easy is it to install? tint shop won't do it because they don't want to open up the panels.

Also assuming no difference between the '10 and '11 model of the moleskin tint protector?

I recommend you find out who did the tint job (dealer should know, unless you had it done after delivery). I would then ask the tint shop for recommendations. They properly have dealt with issues like this before. I am sure that they have a solution like adding a soft shim or similar non invasive material to the outside of the glass (since tint is on the inside) to resolve the rattle.

Give it a try, good luck.

already checked w/ tint shop, they didn't install any protection. they had heard of moleskin but don't install because they don't want the liability of opening panels.

The coupe doesn't have problems with the window seal scratching the tint, it is the E90 sedan. They didn't include felt on the E90 for some reason.

Tint protector is a must if you have tint with an E90 M3.

it shouldn't make an issue at all. Your tightening the bracket for the channel not the door panel or wipe that passes it. I see these loosen up over time on BMW in general and have pulled the door panels and tightened up w/ no issues
