Driving this car responsibly is impossible!

Every time I take the car out I convince myself that I'm going to drive it normally... just keep the revs down and drive it relaxed and reserved.

I CAN"T DO IT! No matter how hard I try.... all it takes is one shift at 6 or 7k and I'm driving like I'm in a race car.... leaving the car in lower gears and letting the revs go. The gas pedal in this car is addicting. Honestly... it is a problem... keeping the car below warp speed on the highway is impossible.

Is it just me?

Nope, it's not just you; I am always fighting to drive like an adult. But there is way to much fun in the gas peddle. I am amazed at how many folks want even more power out of this car.

Unless you are on a race track, you really cannot come close to using the capabilities of this car on the public roads. But some how I will survive without going to jail....I hope....Steve

You are not alone ! I find it very hard to drive responsibly also. Especially on the freeway. I often hit 80-85mph on a 65 without barely knowing it. Its only a matter of time before i catch a ticket.

EXACTLY, Thats what I was going to say...if you think the throttle is addicting now...throw an exhaust on and you'll be in love (even more so)

AND if you want the full experience...hop in a convertible...with an exhaust and your pretty much in heaven!

I know what you mean. Doing somewhere north of 90 8 months ago I wanted to explain to the officer: the engine made me do it, it said a little more, a little louder, a few more hundred RPM.

Maybe that's why people say the 335 is a better DD since you don't need to rev it to go. But the M is much more funner .....Steve

The M// is so much fun to drive its like you dont want to stop and the best thing about it is when you drive fast and you know that you can control it. espacially for us we are used on modified toyota land cruiser where no saftey or stability at high speed

I love the M//

I totally agree with you all.
I do not enjoy this vehicle when I'm driving the speed limit.
It's so easy to rev it and go >80mph in a heartbeat.
I just don't understand those that say it's not a fast car -Are you kidding me ?
I didn't opt for an exhaust-the engine sound is too addictive to be given up to a loud exhaust.

I don't have one so (maybe one day) .. I guess I don't have the problems u folks are dealing with .. so this is test drive experience speaking. But ... it is really possible to enjoy this car under 40! .... I mean it is after all set up with the best tires (PS2) ... a wonderful active suspension and with the steering set to sport ... can't u quasi-"feel" the car move in your hands? If you grip the wheel lightly enough and pay attention ... it was as if for a moment or two .. I could feel paved road grinding underneath the wheels ... unreal!

Keep it in second gear and don't rev it ... or keep it in D and tie your freakin hands to the wheel ... lol. If all else fails ... get a good lawyer .. V1 ... and get ready to dance with Bubba.

There has not been one single ride since the 2,000km break in service that I have not reved the engine at least 1-2 times past 6,000rpm. It's like a must, like having to take my dose before I park her in the garage! I can't miss the sound of the engine, the acceleration, and the rear end sliding even if this is for a brief moment.

PS. Driving civilised and then pushing it like a mad man suddenly, pisses my gf off quite severely... She gets scared and consequently mad at me when this is over, so the fun is double!. This is another thing that this car is so brilliant about - changing character 180 degrees at the press of a button!!!

Yup, that's why I have the gong warning set at 95. It's just too easy to get into it passing someone and be well over 100 without even trying. I can deal with the occasional garden variety speeding ticket, but over 100 can get ugly.

How do you like your AA exhaust Manny? Just ordered mine. I'm hoping it's not too loud. From what I have read, it doesn't sound to much louder at idle and low rpm, maybe just a tiny bit louder and deeper, but the big difference is at higher rpm. Is that how you would describe it?
Sorry for the thread jack.

I came to realize very shortly after getting the M that getting kicks from high speed was just too risky (ticket wise and safety wise).

So I've resigned myself to keeping it around 80 on the freeway. BUT I have found other ways to have fun. I'm practicing Heel N Toe shifting, most evenings I blow a 1/4 tank of gas doing my favorite rounds on 2 local freeways (pretty quiet later in the evening). Close on/off ramps with 270 degree turns, one offramp with a 90 degree turn and no stop sign. It is a lot of fun and I can feel the improvement after every time I do it.
I've also signed up for my first autocross, in April. I'm so looking forward to that.

I figure the cost of a new set of tires is way cheaper than getting a 100mph ticket.

The only way I can stay at "normal" speeds in the highway is if I set the cruise control on. Otherwise, I don't have a shot in hell for keeping it under 95 MPH. It doesn't want to stay at the lower RPMs.

going 120 in this car feels like your cruising

To even drive at 65 is a joke.

Speed laws are living in the past, i hope they change. Increasing the speed limit and educating those 95% of commuters on the road to be respectful and not drive slow and block the fast lanes for us 5% Drivers would be nice too!

Speeding is not what causes most accidents, its bad drivers and people who dont know the rules of the road.

Too many idiots on the road

The people in Germany and other parts of the world get it. They know they must yield and stay to the right for faster traffic and not create pointless and inefficient traffic.

Im glad we have tracks, our M3's are made for real drivers, not 65 mph commuters

+1 I've had my E92 for a little over 6 months now and have had this same issue. Sometimes I look down and I'm going a lot faster than it felt like. Fortunately no tickets yet.

I find attending car control clinics and HSDE on the track help to quell my desire to drive in an irresponsible manner on the street. Unfortunately, it has been a long winter and I haven't attended one since the fall.

So what kinda radar detector you running?!

I have the same problem pal, trust me. Just hope I stay outta the pokey with this thing. FWIW, Islam borrowed my ride last night and is returning it today. I wonder what the look is going to be like on his face. HAHA
