http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times

7:40 - Porsche 997 Turbo 480PS/1565 kg Walter Rohrl
7:42 - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1440 kg, Walter Rohrl (Automobil 05/06)

I know this is 997, but no need to be so incredulous, really. Even in 996 trim, the Turbo will out accelerate the GT3 easily and probably handle nearly equivalent.

Edit: Ok, well including the 996:

7:46 - Porsche 996 GT2, 462 PS/1450 kg (sport auto 06/01)
7:47 - Porsche 996 GT3 RS (sport tyres) [citation needed]
7:52 - Porsche 996 GT3 (381 hp) [citation needed]
7:56 - Porsche 996 Turbo (sport auto 06/00)

Seems the 996 Turbo was not the car the 997 is.

Given how much lower cost the M3 is you can keep it in competition shoes for the life of the car and still be way ahead.

Wasnt trying to incredulous but just surprised that someone would think the TT would be the better track car. The GT2 maybe but not the standard TT.

Well, I don't think the turbo would be a better track car, but I knew I'd seen it turn better times than the GT3. But I was remembering 997 (and yes I saw South's counterpoint to that above too ).

Similarly I suppose, 335i + Procede will not be a better track car than the M3, but there will be tracks (though maybe not the majority) where the modded 335i be faster.

I don't recall ever seeing 997 TT Ring time being that low, not even the mighty 997 GT3 which is supposedly the fastest production Porsche at the Ring. You are touching Carrera GT territory at 7:40

I will join. However, I reserve the right to switch to the M-DCT club upon test drive. This assumes you are accepting E93 in the club also.

What do you think, E?
I could accept the E93, but I'm not sure about the M-DCT loophole...

You have to be kidding . That is just over 500 lbs lighter. So about 3150 lb. That is going to be sick, sick, sick, if true. Also with about 450-460 hp. .

Where are the fantastic rumors coming from?

lb/hp:

Z06: 6.2
F430: 6.5
E92 M3 CSL (rumor): 6.8
997 Turbo: 7.3
997 GT3 RS: 7.3

along with these "pedestrian" numbers:
Corvette C5: 8.0
E60 M5: 8.1
F355: 8.3
New Carrera S (+20 hp rumored): 8.3
E92 M3 8.7
Carrera S: 8.8
RS4: 9.4
AM Vantage: 9.5

Now I am for work in Czech Republic. I can't buy the magazine here. But I confirm and I am "totally" sure. There was a little article on a magazine (probably called AUTOBILD).I was in a gas station in Austria for a coffe break. South or someone else from Germany could help. I will go back in Italy in the next two days. Same highway. I will try to find that magazine. It was written "1.425 kg".And there was the red pic of the prototype that we well know.

regards
