2002 M3

I came across an 2002 M3 coupe (silver with red interior) that is in perfect condition and I want it. What type of maint. issues are associated with this year? I want to keep it for a long time.

Let me know.

Some early '02s had a service action to replace the rod bearings. If this has been done, it's not necessarily a negative. The S54 engine has mechanical valve adjustments that are fairly expensive every 25k miles or so. It's a strong engine, though.

You may find more information on some of the E46 M3 forums.

I've been looking on the e46fanatics and bimmerforums for info on 2002 M3's. Mine is going to be used exclusively for track days, so I don't plan on putting a ton of miles just hard ones

Should be a good choice. Brakes are a weak point for the track, as you know.

As mentioned, the rod bearings. Can still be serviced if not yet done. Is it SMG? Just take the VIN number to a BMW dealer and they can see if it needs anything (software updates or otherwise).

I actually called BMW for a car that I was looking to buy but they said they would only release the data for the car's owner only. It's funny because if I were the car's owner, I wouldn't need the data.
