I have only seen boxes on the passenger side. This baffles me though cause it's more likely you would want to get to the battery than to the amp and crap on the driver's side.

The only one I have seen was the custom build where he does a great DIY on how to make it with fiberglass... It was a good writeup, but seemed too intense for your average joe mechanic to make.

+1.

Obviously if you want to DIY, then the sky's the limit. For a prefab though, I've only seen the passenger side ones.

can you please ask your guy if he can make one with a 12.5" hole?
I'd love to use a JL 13TW5 sub in it

I got my battery side sub with a 10"
And I love it

Can't wait to see.

I'd love to add a second one on the driver's side with a 10".

Unless the 2 enclosures are identical, that probably wouldn't turn out well.

Why is that? They would be tuned to different frequencies.

Sealed enclosures are typically more forgiving of slight variances but it still could change the response enough to the point where you could get cancellation between the two.

I looked into this once but it was for 2 ported enclosures which are much less forgiving to small variances. The manufacturer of the drivers and the installer both said it wasn't a good idea.

i'd think the fact that they were facing each other would lead to cancelation?

But isn't that like saying that you can only have one set of door speakers cause the other set would cancel them out?

well if you take a look at the door speakers
they are not facing each other
they are each facing the other side of the car
but not directly at each other
i know with some old school subwoofer boxes
you would have a sealed box with a second sub attached right on top of the normal one
but it would be in reverse phase
so they don't cancel out

EDIT
i did a google search and it seems many people have done this with success
so i guess i'm wrong

It's doable but not as simple as slapping two boxes in the car. Need to be careful about placement and phasing like you mentioned. To get it right would probably involve some trial and error.
