Watch a woman on crutches dodge a Cadillac elder-missile

An 86-year-old woman attempting to park in front of a California bike store on Tuesday confused the brake and accelerator pedals, turning her Cadillac DTS into a barely-guided missile. While the store takes a beating, one customer shows she's quick on her feet — even with crutches.

No one was seriously injured in the incident in Mission Viejo, Calif., but three people did suffer minor injuries.

Yeah, people that old shouldn't drive. My neighbour did that and almost ran my dad over. Good thing she swerved and ended up knocking over a short tree, which lifted the front wheels and stopped the car.

Now if that women would have killed someone, would she have went to jail for vehicular manslaughter? In a society so hell bent on punishing those "at fault", who is to blame? Is it the women who has no place behind the wheel of her car? Is it the DMV allowing someone that elderly to obtain a driver's license?

It's a serious problem and no one is willing to do anything about it.

There needs to be an age limit on driving. We dont let 10 yr olds drive, I think 86 is too old IMO. Older people should have to be accessed every so often to avoid this

It seems like her crutches were a powerful magnet for that car.

agreed. I brought this up once in front of my wifes mom. She got all bent out of shape cuz it was directed mildly towards my wifes grandma, claiming that if you take an elderly persons license away you are taking away their sense of freedom. Grandma is in her 80's and can barely see because she has macular degeneration. After having a scare(didnt hit anything or drive through a store) she decided to stop driving.

My point is it shouldnt take a "scare" or an incident like the above video. States always claim to be cash strapped. Well theres a new revenue stream. Mandatory periodical testing of anyone over the age of 75 or something along those lines.

I think people above 70 and certainly 80 should be required to take a drivers test annually to preserve their right to drive...an inconvenience yes but necessary.

Cause not all 80 years old are 80 yr olds yet some 70 yr olds are over 80 if you know what I mean.

Agree that allowing a 80 year old to drive in general isnt much different than letting a 12 yr old drive.

Inconvenience?!?! So you're going to tell me an 80 year old can't find time to go down to the DMV once a year? If they can't physically make it down there then they shouldn't have a license.

Shit, most old people end up spending 10 hours in McDonald's drinking free coffee all day and having the same conversation over and over because no one remembers what they were just talking about. A trip to the DMV would be an adventure for the elderly.

I am completely with you here. My grandpa got all bent out of shape (he's 74) because he couldnt understand why I didnt want him to pull the trailer (horse trailer) with my two horses inside. Starts screaming at me "Ive been driving for 50 years! and blah blah blah" Sorry but I just dont trust anyone who drives 35 mph EVERYWHERE and leaves his turn signal on for ten miles to pull a trailer with my two precious girls inside. One of which cant stand still in the trailer and rocks it back and forth everytime she's in it. Nope not gonna happen. I got a neighbor to help me instead.
