Well, I missed this thread. I am glad so many called BMW on this issue. I think I had the first MDCT in Texas back in May 08. My car also had this issue and I can completely identify with the OP. Pulling out into traffic making a slow u-turn and nothing happens when you hit the gas. Well, that combined with BMW service frying my original tranny by changing the "lifetime fluid"...I sold it after 3K miles and am now waiting for the 2014 to come out. Long wait yes but I am gone overseas much of the time. Happy all of you are driving without the lag now, the car was an absolute thrill when everything was working right which was 99.9% of the time! Cheers.

Spoke to a technician locally. He mentioned that manufacture errors or malfunctioning parts has happened on the DCT tranny. He mentioned a couple known issues,

1. being the electrical sensor wire covering/rubber sleeves being faulty and not protecting the wires and
2. Side mechatronics cover being warped from factory, meaning your electronics for the tranny are not sealed properly meaning shtuff can get inside.

not sure if it helps anyone but interesting facts from dealer.

I have a 2011.75 and I have noticed the same "lag" several times, usually when entering a traffic circle. It lags for about a second.

(Necro or not... FYI)

My GTR also has terrible lag when hitting the gas from a slow roll.

I find myself thinking/yelling "GO GO GO GO GO WTF" whenever I quick stop and try to go again right away.

It sits there jerking off in 2nd (or even 3rd).
Believe me, a 2nd/3rd gear sub-10mph start with 0 boost and 4000 lbs, is just plain painful.

I've learned to just say "F it" and wait if there's any traffic coming - even at distances where I'd feel safe pulling out in my old 93' accord.

If I'm in a hurry, I'll make sure to switch to manual and pre-shift to 1st before I stop.
Which is fine - if I can get to 1st before I stop.
Switching from 6th to 1st generally takes longer than it takes to stop - if you're stopping quickly (not slamming the brake, just a basic quick stop).

A GTS dct tune took care of this problem for me. I love the new shift speed and "proper" pull if floored at highway speeds.

Where did you get the GTS DCT tune installed?

This sticky needs to go. The lag issue was resolved years ago.

I agree.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
