Since our machines are capable of...
Triple digit speeds so easily, I am wondering what would happen if you got caught at:

if i had to guess i would have to say it would all depend on the cop that pulled you over. In CA i think anything 20 miles over the speed limit the cops can technically take you to jail and impound your car. however if you were going 120+ you can almost guarantee you will be going to jail at the least.

Way back in the day, i got pulled over doing 118 in a 55 (in the 325) and the cop gave me 90 in a 55. Later got it dismissed in court. I was young at the time, so maybe that's why he went easy on me. It was also late at night, and no one was really out on the roads.

Yeah certain speeds are considered "Wreckless Endangerment" or "A Danger to other drivers". At a certain point speeding is no longer the issue, but the safety of the drivers around you. All depends at where the cop draws the fine line.

In Fairfax County, Virginia where I live, my understanding is that the judges will give one day in jail for each MPH over 90. Of course, this a metropolitan area, but there are still some places you can easily exceed that.

for argument's sake, assume that the officer pushes to prosecute to the full extent of the law (i.e. s/he doesn't cut you any slack).
obviously, it will depend on the state and the posted speed limit. in Illinois, for instance, 30mph over the speed limit is up to 6 months in jail, 40mph over the speed limit is up to a year in jail. I don't think there are any highways in Illinois with speed limits higher than 70mph, so 100 would indeed put you in jail. |

Some time ago I passed an officer while going approximately 145 a little after noon heading back to my office on I-10 inside the Loop in Houston. He eventually pulled me over and gave me a ticket for 95 since I pulled over when my radar detector went off, and then I looked in my rear view mirror. Looking back, I was fortunate, but it is very dependent on the officer who stops you, and your demeanor once stopped. Before, anyone has a seizure about my speed, please understand I think it was a bad idea and I strongly suggest doing as I say, not as I've done. Oh, ticket was thrown out on a technicality.

As it should because with your car, you can easilly hit 3 digits without even realizing it.

I had my previous 335i to 140 once. It felt pretty damn good at that speed, but not M-quality. |

Well, I'm not gonna lie, I've probably been pulled over more than anyone on this Forum. 19 times.
I to this day have a written warning for 109 in a 60 in Arizona. I have a Reckless Driving pending in CA (for drifting, not speeding). I've been lasered at 136 on the I-170(evaded). The only speeding tickets I've gotten were 55 in 35 (20 over, $315 in CA), and 51 in 35 ($347 second offense, traffic school dropped the points). In 99% of the cases, you won't go to jail, or get impounded. If you are weaving at 140 and he somehow catches you, then you might have a pair of shiny new bracelets behind your back. Cop cars top out at 140, for them to go 0-140 has to take 30 seconds or more. As long as they can't read your license plate, no harm no foul Get off two exits later and hide behind a has station lol. I know I know, I'm being reckless. But I'm really not. My tires are rated for 186MPH, I'm a certified stunt drivers, I don't put other cars in harms way by getting close to them, I don't speed in the middle of rush hour, and its not like 161 is my normal speed, I just happen to have been that fast before. IF TRAFFIC IS REPORTED "LIGHT" ON YOUR TICKET, RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT IS NOT A VALID TICKET! ONLY RECKLESS DRIVING IS!

19 times isnt that much, im sure plenty of people have you beat, me myself included wether for doing something wrong or just cuz the cop likes my car, whatever the reason i probly get pulled over that many times in a yr, not for speeding tho
but on a serious note it depends on the cop, ive been pulled over at 120 and got a front plate ticket, many other stories but just pull over as soon as you see them and have respect and youd be surprised what will happen |
