How does sales tax work if staying in CA?

I live in a county where sales tax is 8.75% (northern california). I'm currently working with Steve Thomas BMW(southern california) on a new E92, and tax down there is 7.25% I believe. I'd be saving ~$700 so it'd be worth a $69 southwest ticket to fly down, make it a trip, then have a nice drive back up.

Do I really see these savings? Or will I get a bill in the mail at some point in the future making up the difference in sales tax?

I believe that you are subjected to the tax rate based on where you live when the car is titled and sold at the dealer. Your address is the tax driver not the dealerships.

I will find out from Ryan shortly for you. I just text him. I should hear back in a couple hours. He has been out of the office for a couple days

Ok here you go direct from Ryan: He pays tax where he registers the car.

OP, like the others said, it's not where you buy but where you live. I paid local Alameda sales tax even though I bought from San Diego. Buy from Ryan, the money you save will be greater than any of the Bay Area dealerships. I drove up PCH and it was a great way to break the car in.

Correct. It is where you live. I pay 0% tax living in Oregon and I buy my BMWs in Washington, but am a California resident. Go figure.
