Tracking an E93?
What would it take to track a convertible? I've heard most tracks require a roll cage, has anyone ever put one on a E93?
Preferably a roll cage that can be removed when not at the track. |

depends on the club u track with and which track u go to. not all tracks would require you to have a roll cage. although if you are serious bout the sport, you'll probably have to put a roll cage in.

I did a few track days with mine last year. No roll bar required given it is a hard top, but as others have mentioned, it is track/club dependent.

It's my understanding that the no convertible rule is set by the organization hosting the event not the track where the event is being held. AFAIK no BMWCCA chapters allow verts in the US, however the Audi club is a more liberal when it comes to verts. You might want to check with your local chapter. The Porsche clubs also allow verts, but some Porsche chapters only allow P cars at their events. Also, I'm not sure where in the US the OP is from, but the Canadian BMW clubs also allow verts, so if you're from a northern state that might be an option.
Some of the clubs require roll bars, and some are fine with factory roll over protection. I saw 2 E46M3s at Calabogie (Ontario) with bolt in roll bars that were nicely built and used factory mounting points so no holes had to be drilled. Perhaps there's something like this for the E93. Try a google search.

my friend tracked his e93 M3 with me but my friend with the clk55 amg vert was denied since he didn't have a roll cage they said since ours is a hardtop with built in safety it's okay but yeah it depends on the event
