2 venues 3 track layouts 2 organizations 7 events 13 track days 20 hours track time 1500 track miles Credit: 3 sets of front tires 2 sets of rear tires 5 sets of front brake pads 4 sets of rear brake pads 180 gallons of on track gas 1 windshield 1 rear brake disc 1 engine under tray 8 hotel nights 2200 travel miles ...in other words, what it took me to get some valuable seat time while having some fun. You used 5 sets of front pads and 4 sets of rears in 20 hours? Which pad were you using? Was this all with the AP BBK? Are you running a duct? Street tires or Rs? TNA

I am also surprised about the use of more front tires than rear.I wear the rears at about twice the rate as I do fronts and I run street alignment settings.I will get about 10 hours out of an R compound tire like the RA1 if I rotate it front to rear to equalize the wear.My NT'05's lasted 8 full days which is about 20 hours of use.On a fast track like Mosport I was only a couple of tenths off what I turned on a R compound tire with twice the life.

Front tire wear vs. rear tire wear -> track layout (TWS, MSR Cresson), driving technique (I'm not smooth enough...), incorrect tire pressure (no Longacre before October), track surface heat (TX summers) might all have to do with it.
Street tires only, so far. Started out with the OEM Conti 3's, then replaced the fronts with Conti 2's, then switched over to Yokohama ADVAN Sports. Next up is a set of Hankook Ventus R-S3's. HAWK HP+ pads with the stock set up. Mintex Xtreme Motorsport, then HAWK HPS, then Mintex F3R pads with the APs. The Mintex F3R's are here to stay - they are simply amazing. No ducts. Yet. |

Ah, I see. Yeah, you'll definitely burn through street pads quickly. Do you run the F3Rs on the street as well? try a set of PFC 01s on the track sometime.

This thread made me laugh out loud. I didn't have the foresight to keep track of nearly this much info (gallons of on-track gas? ).
+1, I had about 15 track days as well this summer on one set of PFC 01s (front and rear). There are 7-8mm left, enough for a few winter lapping days if I take it easy... Pricey, but TOTALLY worth it imho. Like you, I wore through the front tires more quickly than rears (also street tires, RE-11s). Swapped them left and right to help mitigate the track layout effects. Are you running any camber? That helped me some... but I need more than the -2.5 up front I was had at the end of Oct. -2.0 in the rear was perfect.

Yep, between NASA weekends, various regional BMW CCA DEs and open lapping days... well, I was driving every track surface that was open when I was available. And to OP's point, it sure was fun
Next year: track wheels/tires + BBK (to make it easier to swap pads out) and I'll do it again. But better! hhlou520, our NASA regional director & his wife will be splitting time between TX and the rocky mtn regions. I've been wondering if they'll do any 'mixers' between the two...?

First I need to find a vendor to source the right size PFC's from. So far I've been working with Ryan from Stillen/AP Racing and he's helped me a lot to identify good pads for my braking needs.

Try Porterfiel-brakes.com. If you now your pad part number just send them an email. They have PFC01 for the stock calipers and carry a lot of other pad materials for bbks.
