who will defect to F80 M3 / F82 M4?
Gents,
I'm curious as to who will trade their M3 for new M3/M4, and for what reasons. While I have no doubt BMW will ensure the new M3/4 will slightly outperform E92 I'm not expecting a huge difference. Also the loss of the 1st/last V8 and its sound and performance is a bitter pill to chew. Having saif that there are a few other reasons to switch. I find the present M3 a sheer joy to drive and the V8 is uber sweet. The loss of depreciation would cover a S/C for it vs. getting a new one. Hmm. And new brakes too. A. It's new, will the new look offer a more interesting or aggressive look the compels you to switch? B. I found the only real dislike on current M3 is the somewhat stale interior(dash mainly). That would motivate me somewhat. C. This next one would be a bigger deal to me. TECH, BMW will no doubt continue to add interesting and useful tech. Items that cant easily be done aftermarket. i.E. adaptive cruise, net access thtu Idrive. or performance tech. D. Maybe BMW will step up individual options, such as recaro seats, colors, sport brakes or the like. They want to move towards a customer order setup rather than dealer inventory. Being able to customize your car would help that and increase profits. Food for thought. Thanks. |

I'm 99.8% sure I won't "defect" to the new turbocharged M3. I will say the persuasive gentlemen on this board have slowly convinced me to have more of a wait and see attitude on the next generation M3/4. The great reviews of the new M5 are also convincing that BMW may not f**k this up afterall. No matter how good it is though, it won't be naturally aspirated.

If I wanted a turbo charged 6 cylinder, i would have stuck with my 335 (although the new M will undoubtedly be much better). I just personally can't part ways with my car and the glorious S65, so I won't be 'defecting' any time soon
* And from what I've seen, the 3s doesn't look nearly as good as the e92... this is of course a matter of humble opinions

I will wait for more details before any decision on a new F8x M3-4.The new 991 911 is of much interest.I am not a fan of turbo engines as I do track a fair bit.

For me it wont be much of a difference engine wise. I'll be handing the keys to my 335i to my dad when the next M3 comes out.

I really like the sound of the V8 with the Eisenmann Race, and plan to hang on to it for a bit. If I do get rid of it, thinking of a 911 Turbo S (997 or wait for the new one), R8 V10, or, if the right opportunity presented, a pre-owned Murcielago LP640.
As one of the other memebers mentioned, though, may very well just go with the ESS VT-2 600 kit. |

Not I, said the cat.
Love the S65, I think the E9X will be the most coveted version of the M3 in the future. Just like the M154 C63 will be for the C-Class. |

Boy, I'm 50/50 right now...
I can really see myself owning my E92 for a good long time. Problem is going to be warranty coverage. I'm going to put about 7k miles a year on the car. After 3 years it will barely have 21,000 miles. Looking at some of the warranties, it will be crazy $$ to extend a couple more years and up to 100,000 miles. Really don't want to own a bmw outside of warranty

Hmmm, I don't even have my e90 M3 yet, so I don't think an F80 is in the cards any time soon. Plus, I like buying at the end of the model run, since all the kinks have been worked out.

I am pretty certain that I will jump brands and be in a Porsche (either the 991 equivalent of the Cayman R or a GT3) as a replacement for the current M3. I love my current car, but I feel that BMW's are just getting far too soft for my tastes. I find myself less and less in need of an all-round vehicle, so I think it's the logical step to take without breaking the bank.
However, I'll reserve judgement until the F30/F80 M3 comes out. But to say that I am pessimistic is an understatement. |
