Good question. I'd only be concerned with anything that can hit under the car before the tires, which might not be that much higher than a curb. I have PDC, but so far have never parallel-parked, or parked against a parking bump in reverse, so can't answer your question.

I'd say if a curb is high enough to hit under the car before the tires, it should be detected. And I bet it also detects poles, which can cause a lot more damage than a curb (just ask my wife ). Curious about the answer now .

Yes, it can detect curbs behind you as well as around the corner of the bumper. It beeps everytime I back out of my garage since I've only got a foot or so on each side to get out. If you have iDrive it'll show a graphical representation of how far you are, but no actual distance units. I didn't think I would like it so much as I do. Wish our US cars would have sensors in front as well like in Europe.

yea i really did wish we had sensors in the front, helps not scraping the bumper on those cement parking curbs. The only way I avoid that is parking like 3 feet away, but then i look like a total noob.

Yes. On my 550i it even detects the track embedded in the pavement that the parking gate at work rolls back and forth on.

A trick to tell how far away the front curb is, is to use where your rear view mirrors are as a reference. Normally a good point to stop is where the curb is just below the mirrors, but it's different depending on your height, seating position, etc.

That's how I do it at least..

MentholGuy's (modmynav.com) front cam FTW. I now park the right up to the curb, but never worry about hitting it because I can see it on my nav screen.
