F*** USPS

About a week ago, my friend, Daniel, sent me (Scott) a flashdrive with important files (too large to email) on it to me. It is a very small item, so he decided to send it in a standard envelope to save on cost. Smart, right? NO. Cuz some douchebag POS at the post office noticed the little bulge in the envelope, and ripped it open to steal the drive... FUCK YOU ASSHOLE, AND FUCK USPS. What is this "We Care" bullshit? Its only Fedex for me from now on!! (I blurred out last names and addresses for privacy reasons)

CLIFFNOTES VERSION: Some dumbfuck stole my mail!!!!

either it was sabotage or your piece of mail went through a standard letter sorting machine and got chewed up.

As a former postal employee in college, this is laughable. What made him think he could sent your flash drive in a f-ing regular envelope over regular first class mail? If it was so important, he should have put it in a padded envelope, etc. and got his lazy ass to the post office. It would have cost only a couple bucks to send it that way.

That being said...two things could have happened:
1. The stamp canceling machine or the operator of the machine saw the envelope and detected the thicker than normal size and then placed it aside to be hand sorted. Then the hand sorters (which are usually 70 yr old senior citizens who can't move around that well and stamp the problem mail by hand) got pissed that someone tried to send this through the regular mail and ripped open your envelope and threw away the drive.

2. The stamp canceling machine, which can only take up to about 1/4" thickness chewed up the envelope and damaged the drive (and the envelope). They tried taping the envelope back but it was too hacked up. Then they sent you the remains.

Moral of the story: Don't insult the people who process billions of pieces of mail a year, with only a tiny, tiny fraction getting damaged or missing.

I understand how you feel. I have had several '' we care'' packages. At least twice a week I get someone elses mail. When I first moved here I filed a change of address notice at both my old and new location. Somehow the notice here in sunny florida was misfiled. I recieved no mail during the seven weeks it took to sort it out. During that time several people, having had several mailings returned to them assumed I was dead. At that time I was still getting established and hadn't set up direct deposit for several income sources. So thinking I had died they stopped sending them. Bills also stopped so I had to get on the phone to get balances and send checks. Then I had to prove to a lot of people that I was indeed alive and could they please send money. Anyway you get the idea. I just love the post office.

I like how you blame the USPS for your friends/your incompetence... because it's always someone else's fault...

If it was that important, why are you going the cheap route? put it in a padded envelope. Use some ftp or file transfer program (I'm sure your regular aim/msn/etc would've been good enough).

Either way, I don't think it's the USPS problem at all, they sort how many pieces of mail a day, you think someone knew you had a usb drive in there and said okay lets rip this idiot off...

BTW, if the files were that important... I hope you/your friend at least put some password protect on it...

They are important, but not sensitive... what i mean is, they would mean nothing to anyone except me. He will just send another one tomorrow. Not a big deal, but it just sucks to see this...

That's not true. When the envelopes get chewed up by the letter-sorting machines they are sent to a special section where they are manually patched up and then manually sorted for proper delivery.

Went to the 6th floor and there it was... sitting on a reception desk... by itself. I went over and grabbed it and left. Not even sure what company it was. Pissed.
To be honest, my company has used every major shipping service there is(depending on individual customer needs), and we have, at one time or another, had something lost or stolen from all of them.

And, to the other people... how is this incompetence on the part of my friend? When I put something in the mail, I am paying for it to be delivered. I expect it to be delivered. Now I know shit happens, hell, it happens all the time, but that doesnt make it my/my friend's fault. It's just bad luck/a jammed machine/some punk kid/whatever.

To any postal worker's (past or present) I apologize for jumping to conclusions and doubting your integrity, but I was just pissed that I had waited for this item to arrive only to find a torn envelope and a sorry note in my box...
