Wow, 3M is the best. Confusing since Ventureshield is a 3M product.

3M is known for being hard to install as the film is less flexible... but as the test shows, it is good in other areas... And it is one of the ugliest films with tons of orange peel and lumpy texture speaking from personal experience. Trade-offs! Last edited by Z K; 01-02-2013 at 04:11 PM.. |

Good video to show people that there are differences between films that look similar, but the products tested in the video are fairly old.
Not only have Avery and Llumar released improved products, but there are a couple of other companies that have released films far more durable than anything tested in the video. |

Here's an example of some of the technology that is being used in some of the newer films (not to mention better stain resistance):

I am pretty sure it is new. The post date is April 2012. In the youtube comments, the poster mentions the Xpel Ultimate which he didn't include in the video but would like to test as well. Paint protection film isn't refreshed every year.

This is what I'm getting next on my car.
http://www.xpel.com/ My local shop is the only one in WA carrying it and it looks great. Anyone with this product? |

Thanks to the shagreen effect of the film, the car’s paint looks like the car is right from the factory and this really satisfies me. I do not not regret that I decided to cover the whole car in polyurethane and thanks to the specialist who advised me to use the F-Performance protective film.

I have the 3M Clear bra on my 2011 M3 for almost 10 years now. It still looks pretty good. How long will the clear bra last on the car? Will it damage the paint? What is the best way to clean this?
Thanks, Dave

That's about how long I had 3M on my car. It was installed in 2009 and was getting pretty yellow. You should be happy and replace it now as it has served a full-life, it will require a heat gun and time. I replaced my 3M film 2 years ago and the new warranty is longer now and it's still super tough and durable.

Geez, this is an old video today now... films have changed a lot since then!
The best films today are all very similar. The exceptions being 3M which lags the leaders and is hard to recommend today. They haven't innovated where others have changed a lot. Ventureshield has all but disappeared after being acquired by 3M. Suntek Ultra PPF and Xpel Ultimate Plus is the top today. I just had my clear bra re-done using Suntek Ultra. Who knows what changes in PPF will happen in the next few years? Have to keep updated.

If you want to keep the car and have clear bra, I'd recommend replacing it.
