Best tinting in LA/CA?
Can someone recommend a good quality tint shop in the so-cal area? I have a 85' 635csi and only posted here because of the knowledge of tinting on this forum. I wanted to get a ceramic tint possibly huper optic or f1. I was wondering how much it was going to run me. I was thinking 70% on the windscreen for uv protection and 50 all around. Can someone recommend me a shop and possibly pm me on a quote. Thanks

The absolute most reputable place for tinting in southern california (ESPECIALLY for BMWs) is Song's Tint Masters - aka STM Solutions. Very very well known throughout the BMW community, very experienced with BMWs raised dots, and is very well received. He's also a forum sponsor over at M-Fest.
Ask for HAN and tell him to give you the M-Fest discount.

On Friday, I had the HuperOptik (ceramic) 65% installed on my E90 by Hann and his crew at STM. 323-732-3760. The install took about 90 minutes. I went for the 65% because I wanted an OEM look that would go unnoticed by our favorite organization and would not make night-driving too dark from the interior.
The 65% tint is for the most part unnoticeable unless you knew my windows were tinted. It has a very light blue hue to it (matches the Space Grey very nicely) and what I notice the most is its ability to eliminate UV heat. A side-note for E90 drivers considering tinting... All four of our doors are equipped with two dust-collecting blades at the base of the window. To avoid scratching Hann recommends that the second blade (which causes the scratching) to be removed -or- adding a sheepskin layer on top of the blade to avoid harsh friction b/w the blade and tint. I opted to have the 2nd blade removed, to avoid extra stress on the motor-action of the windows. Since there is a MFest group buy going on, I was given a 20% discount. Btw, Hann's reputation extends beyond the BMW community, as he was the installer responsible for the elevator windows at the Beverly Center and most Pinkberry stores. I highly recommend his work and that anyone interested act quickly and sign up for the group buy at MFest's forum before it runs out. |

Tint
Just got my windshield tinted with Llumar air 80. It's almost clear so you won't have problems with the popo but it rejects 99% uv. I got it done at Signature glass and tint in Costa Mesa. Great place. The windshield was $180 but there was a yelp special you missed which dropped it down to $120.
I also have ceramic 30% for the rest of the car. Check on yelp for their reviews. Good shop with the computer cutting. I would avoid Huper Optics because it will block a lot of the electronic signals like your gps, key remote... At least that's what everyone is saying.

Any ceramic type tint will keep your GPS and other electronic functions working just fine. When you get into the cheaper metallic type tints, you'll have problems.
If you go for the pricier brands you'll be fine. I just got Pinnacle 35 all around (minus the front windshield). Still drying so you can see some small streaks/bubbles in place. As they dry they'll go away. Will post pictures in this forum when it's ready, but it already makes my car look much better. And no problems with my GPS, comfort access, etc.

It's a $110 certificate for the price of $50. So you save $60. |
