So, changed my own brake pads.. Pagids.

Ok, I flushed/bleed the entire brake system twice, to get rid of air bubbles etc. Pedal feel is good, nice and consistant braking. Great bite.

I know these aren't street pads, but are they supposed to squell a little even when not actively braking at low speeds? I put in Pagid rs19 yellows on my current rotors which are above min thickness. Did not place any gel behind the pads.

I checked the temp of the calipers after driving to work, felt slightly warm and even all around.

ps- Wow, braking from high speeds feels really good. The bite on these things is incredible.

Nice job! Curious, how much were a set of the Pagid yellow's? I take it they are a "track pad" right?

Yes, endurance track pad. I picked them b/c most people got a good number of days out of them w/o destroying the rotors. Front and back were $700.

cool. 700 just for pads...wow, I know that's what they run, but man that's a lot to swallow for 4 little pads.

I bet you do a lot more swallowing at the track when your stock pads begin to give up the ghost after several hot laps.

Actually, $700 for front and back is not bad.

Doesn't look like you've gotten this answered yet. Yes, they are going to squeal at low speeds because your pads are contacting the disc a little bit all the time, and those little metal metal threads that poke you when you touch the material, those are going to cause the squeal.

K thanks for the answers. Now I can get some rest for tomorrow Wooo hooooo.

Yeah, they are a bit much. Overall, one of the few pads though that almost everyone is positive about though. When I push on the pedal, want to make sure my car stops. Few extra hundred here goes a long way.

Very long lasting and rotor friendly were my big concerns. After all the pad transfer from the stock pads, wanted to avoid any issues next few times out.

Air cooling ducts will be the next project.

Carbotech was one of the few others that I was also considering. Maybe next time if more people give positive feedback on them.

Carbotech increased pricing earlier this year (as per my discussion with their sales guy a couple of weeks ago). I didn't get the E92 M3 pricing, but I am pretty sure it is now $400+ for a set. Mention your BMW CCA membership number if you have one when you call and you'lll get a small discount. I didn't do any controlled observations, but I got the feeling RS19 might last slightly longer than XP10 for instance. However, I found XP12 to work better for the E92 M3, but that is not all that easy on the rotors.

In regards to squealing and low speed dragging of the pads, you might consider removing the metal clips on the pads if the pagids have them. I was getting some dragging with my race pads until I removed the clips. I'm not sure why some companies put clips on race pads since most of us just rip them off anyway.

After tracking yesterday, low speed drag improved. Ricky, only metal clips I see are the ones like the stock pads, aren't those needed to keep the pads in place?

BTW, they worked GREAT on the track. Zero pad transfer, no fade during all four 25 minute sessions. I don't call Buttonwillow a heavy braking track, moost of the areas are either wide open or technical. Even after dropping from 120 to 50 mph, the brakes felt good for the next few stops. Intructors were impressed with the bite, after getting the feel for them they really helped stopping in a smoother/cleaner fashion from high speeds for turn in. Worth 700, not sure haven't compared them to other pads yet.

Nitto's were good, but my first r-comp tires took a few sessions to learn how to feel them. When the pressure is right the grip is incredible. Now for more days to keep learning.

Thanks for the help guys, all DIY and posts from other members really helped getting the car setup, felt great. Still want to do brake ducts, adventure for another day.

Absolutely... did the same as I am going to Monticello on Monday and the car now sounds like a garbage truck!

Rattling too...

Folks - a well timed thread.

I installed PFC-01 pads in OEM calipers and used them on Friday for the first time. I found that the pads rattle in the calipers when hot and just rolling/taxiing slowly. The noise went when the brakes were applied. Is this usual? Initially it was the passenger side front only, and then it was both sides after a more vigorous session. The PFC pads do not have retaining springs.

The brakes worked fine, but the rattle was disconcerting and drew some attention in the paddock coming in off the track. The rattling went away when the pads were cool.

One would think that, but often they don't work that way on track pads. PFC-01's for example don't come with any of the metal clips.

You actually paying for 8 pads (2 per each conner). I installed them yesterday and they are great ! Can't wait to take it to LS again.

I experienced this identical situation. Put PFC01s in over the weekend, took it to the track yesterday, and by the end of the day they were rattling/slapping quite badly. Continued to rattle for the entire 1 hr drive home, at all speeds. Didn't rattle with the brakes applied. The rattle is very concerning, loud, and constant. Almost sounds destructive. I did not notice this sound from the brakes of any of the other cars that were driving through the pits at the track.

Squealing is very common with almost all track pads and many hi-perf street pads. It can change with temp, vehicle speed, moisture and the amount of brake pressure, etc. Ask me how I know...
I'm OK with the squealing, but nervous about the rattling. Have you heard of any situations where the rattling became more than just a noise annoyance? Will the loose fit get worse as the pads wear.

I got a set of PF01s as I had been quite pleased with them previously. Changed fluid to Motul 600. The pads did NOT last me more than five 25 min sessions at Summit Point. Basically in a day and a half, the pads were down to the metal with only 2mm remaining. The rears hardly wore out.

Not pleased. May try 08s for longevity, wanted to touch base and see what the group thinks of Pagids (19s and or 29s). I dont mind paying the extra money if they really last a few track days.

Thoughts?

Although I do not use threshold breaking consistently yet, I do run my brakes pretty hard and am able to do about 8 to 10 track days on a set of Pagids RS19. I am extremely satisfied with them and would not change... Until I invest in a BBK.
Note the Pagids are quite rough on the rotors, but probably not more than any other racing pads.

anyway to get rid of the squeal with anti-squeal shims or anti-squeal lube?

Rattling is very normal and it gets louder as the pad wears down. 100% normal. Squealing is less with the PFC-08s I now have vs. the 01s. 01s I admit had better bite, but lasted way too short.

i agree the rs19s are worth the extra coin as the wear is low. if you run them on the street too much might reverse that because you pay in rotors. though. my thought was to run the pagids on track and ds2500s most of the rest of the time.
