Is my power steering pump on its way out?

Just wanted to surface this thread as I noticed a whining noise whenever I turned the steering wheel. I had purchased the car recently and am at about 70k miles - doesn't seem like previous owner ever changed this fluid out and it was running fairly know.

Not sure how long it has been running that low but curious if there are any concerns I should watch out for? The steering feels SO MUCH better lol. If there was damage to power steering pump, what would the symptoms be ? I'd like to watch out for these.

Unusually loud whining/humming from the PS pump when at lock, leaking or juddering when you turn lock to lock.

Had the same issue with the whining and thought it might be some kind of suspension issue but turned out to be the PS fluid level was really low. Ended up getting the 3D Design power steering reservoir attachment but I still seem to be getting some leaking coming through.

Anyone else have this and have better luck keeping the fluid in check? Mostly just a pain to keep cleaning it.
