What’s the worst car you have ever owned?
All of us are lucky to be driving great cars...but I’m sure this was not always the case. What’s the worst car you have owned and why was it the worst? I used to own a Corolla about 20 years ago...absolutely bulletproof but THE most boring appliance ever. Got me around but for an enthusiast it was a near death experience.

96 Jetta, was my first stick shift and didn’t even know how to properly drive one at the time. I had just turned 17, convinced my parents to let me make payments to them. I only say it was the worst because it was easier to count what was NOT wrong with the car then what was. Still loved it though, developed a love for moddding even if it was mostly cheap autozone shit!

VW GTI mk5. Was APR Stage 2 (3" straight back exhaust, downpipe onwards) and had terrible trouble with grip on front wheels. Understeer city and even moving fast from a stop was terrible. Also unreliable - turbo died on me.
I'd almost say my E46 325ci perhaps, but it was just slow and had undisclosed accident damage that I discovered when my trunk got lightly flooded with water. Stereo amplifier died and I had to push hard with the BMW dealership to repair, as it was a CPO. |

06 Ford Explorer, damn thing just fell apart. The interior plastics all broke, the headliner sagged, head gasket blew, transmission went out and countless other stupid crap. I have had a lot of old cars that were POS’s as well, but that was from age and neglect, the Explorer just fell apart

Hmm, I had two Saab 9000s before my initial hop to BMWs, so I'd go with my '95 9000 CSE. Both were decent cars, just didn't compare to the BMWs.
That thing had the Aero buckets swapped in, I swapped over the TD04 along with basic bolt-ons. Probably putting down about 250whp, in a car with the chassis rigidity of a fish. Understeered like a pig, only got it to move decently at an autocross once. Also, really weak transmissions, managed to punch a hole in the bellhousing when it grenaded. Otherwise, huge liftback was useful in college, and I have yet to find a more comfy yet supportive seat than those Aero buckets. Was fairly reliable, too, so not the most horrible car. |

2014 GMC Sierra 1500.
I've owned a lot of cars for my age, from $1000 beaters to that fully optioned brand new Sierra, and it was the worst of all of them. Horrible throttle response, no towing power, atrocious brake control, and traction control guaranteed to get you trapped on a wet dirt road. I can keep going, but I'd rather just drive my e92 and forget that tragedy. |

My first few cars were objectively pretty bad. I had a 1.4L Mk3 Golf, exactly this colour but 3 door.
It always felt damp inside, leaked oil constantly, had no torque whatsoever, bodywork rusting. Absolute shed, but it had character and was my car so I loved it. Never owned a car I felt had no redeeming qualities whatsoever, 30 years from now when were all driving electric appliances I may not be able to say that! |

Digging around here's an actual picture of my very first car, a 92' 1 litre Nissan Micra. Gearbox was constantly seizing up, the heater didn't work, sunroof was glued shut because it leaked, and it rode like a boat. Loved it though.

Now that a true beauty!! When you start losing function because you had to glue things shut, you know there will be better days... 👍🏻

1972 Mercury Capri. To call it a piece of shit would be an insult to other pieces of shit. If it could possibly break, it did.

Can't decide which... Both were bought new.
2012 VW GLI 6MT Consistent wastegate issues while driving creating an issue similar to a misfire it would seem. Happened one time while trying to cut across traffic that resulted in a near stall. Almost got T-boned by a semi because of it. VW ended buying the car back. The pressure plate for the clutch also exploded (literally) at about 18k miles. Driving up a hill in 6th gear at about 55 mph and went to downshift to 5th and it popped. 2013.5 GLI DSG (currently have and bought to replace the car above because I got a super deal on it to offset the issues with the last one) Haven't really had too many issues with it until recently. Timing chain tensioner took a shit at about 70k miles causing the top end to get destroyed. Car has had perfect maintenance history since new (I'm original owner). After plenty of battle with VW, finally got the motor repaired after I footed a chunk of the bill since it was just out of warranty. |

2001 BMW X5. Transfer case failures left us stranded on a highway and a busy intersection on separate occasions. The engine once died on me mid-shift (manual transmission) on a freeway merger doing around 60 mph due to some faulty sensor. Tail lights went out every other month. I kept a roll of duct tape in the car because every time a window regulator went out, I had to hold the window up with tape, and driving to tahoe during winter with the windows down and passengers really really sucks. add to that all the typical cooling system failures common with that era of BMW.
