I honestly have never heard of a GTR blowing their stock transmission that wasn't modded or doing back to back hard launches on the car. In fact I have heard of FAR MORE DCT failures. The "problem" with the GTR is that it's extremely easy to make an extra 75HP, and fairly easy to make an extra 200HP. That's what's breaking the trannies... I think the transmission is a non-issue. The consumables definitely is an issue clutch fluid $1100, brakes $2200, tires $2800, and that was in the first 11k miles LOL. Well put the GTR is a sledge hammer, not a great daily driver (I don't daily drive mine), whereas the M3 is drivable daily. Of course the M3 is also a lot slower...

that's bullshit.. please go to gtrlife (nagtroc) and you'll see plenty of 2009-10 GTRs that have been stock and had tranny issues. Infact I recall a brand new 2012 GTR that had a tranny issue right off the dealer floor. I can go dig up the threads but too lazy (and don't care )

M3 is obviously a lot slower on the track ... but its fun

Dude, those cars have either been modded or repeatedly launched. Anyone i know (and I know quite a few) with a stock GTR that drives the car hard has never had any tranny problems. About 2 years ago I was pretty familiar with exactly who's doing what and rebuilding what since I owned almost a hundred GTR motors, and I still keep in touch with a few of the guys. Reality can be very different from what you see on nagtroc...

With a few track events yeah... As I recall the front rotors are $800 MSRP each, assuming 30% off backs are less with pads at say $200 you're over $2200. A few aftermarket ones are less as I recall, but I've sold a variety of 2pc rotors and I still prefer OEM...

not really that out of line. OEM BMW rotors run 650 front and 550 rear then set of pagids fron 380 and rear 330. your right at 1900 for oem doing the work yourself. 2800 for tires is that part that makes me cringe. i can get 4 275-35s for just over 1000 bucks.

Tires for GTR are 1600 if you go with the PSS's. 2000+ for OEM.

Crazy price did go down $1850 + ship at tire rack right now... Should have waited lol... Anyone know if tires got a lot cheaper in the last 12 months or did I just get ass raped? hehe

Keeping this thread on topic: The 09-11 and 12+ GTRs are pretty similar except for the LED bumper. From a powertrain perspective (computer aside) both still use the IHI RH55 turbos, the nozzle area is slightly larger on the 12+ hotside due mainly to cracking and not performance reasons, the tuning (boost) is a bit more aggressive resulting in an extra 60 or so horses. Not certain it's worth the premium to pay for a 12+, so I guess if you're looking for a used one keep that in mind - Good luck!

I have heard all manner of sob stories from guys putting a rod through the block and trying to save up to buy a new motor. There were cars in shops for MONTHS while the owner saved up trying to pay for a new motor. Kid literally crying to me on the phone. It seems especially here in the states with our easy credit a few GTR owners stretched a bit too much and couldn't pay for broken parts and tried to seek warranty coverage. Certainly this was also the case with the transmission....

I havent had a replacement transmission but I have broke stock tranny parts after a fulls shep stage 3+ build and had to tear the car back down to fix them. (800+whp pushing the car hard on a road course)

that said, i would do it all again in a heartbeat.

absolutely love my gtr

I think prices for tires have come down from all the competition! I'm going to try the new BFG Rival coming out this spring. It's a track/road tire that should work well at autocross! Cheap too. 1352 for a set of 4 285/35/20 square on tirerack.

Check the weight. They seem to be really heavy from what I remember.

I think they're heavier than PSS's, but they're lighter than the OEM runflat Dunlops I'm using now. :-)

Prices on the pss's have come down but back on the way up again. My tire supplier was able to supply me my z06 sizes for 1400 (usually 1800) installed. He bought a truck load of them bc the prices were rising again

Everything is heavier than PSS and PS2. I think same size in ad08 and the BFG for me were 6 lbs different.
