Tire Size
Hey guys, I know this had to have been discussed before and yes I did do a search. Buying tires at discount tire and salesperson stated if I do a 255-40-18 on the front, then I must do a 295-35-18 on the rear. Will this work on a oem 18" e92 M3 wheel? Seems like it would look very odd. Anyone have any experience on this?

Yes a 295 on a 9.5" rim would look odd in comparison. Although 255/40 is meaty on an 8.5" wheel as well. It depends on what tire you run, but some will not even bead up on a wheel that is too narrow (depends on the sidewall construction, luckily recommended widths are listed on line).
Point is, you don't HAVE to up your rear size, there is no rule. It won't throw anything off if you had a narrower rear size in mind like a 275/35/18. I'd love to hear their argument for having to up the rear size. |

no that is wrong. you do not HAVE to go 295 in the rear.
actually, 295 is too wide for a 9.5in rim. IMO, if you are going to stay with the stock 18's, maintain the stock tire sizes. |

I thought it was a little off also. I just wanted to go one step up for grips sake. I am getting the Continental Extreme DWS. I wanted 255-40-18 in the front and 275-40-18 in the rear. They said it wont work. Tire Rack on the other hand said it was fine. If they didn't match Tire Racks price I would've just ordered them online. These tires have a 50,000 mile thread wear warranty. I always had a good experience on my old e46 M3 with continentals. Thanks for the quick help fellas.
