Maritimers - Advanced Driving School.

Just checking in to see who is planning to go to the advanced driving schools in Nova Scotia in June (5/6) and August (28/29).

I will be going to both. Will do the first one in the Porsche and the second in the M3 (provided it gets back from ED in Europe in time...). Maybe someone will bring me for a lap around the track in their M to get me primed for my pickup 1 July

Any else going?

I hear there are only a few spots left. More info on the Bluenose BMW Club website: http://bluenosebmwclub.ca/

Hey guys, I'm glad to see you are signing up for the local BMW Club advanced driving school so you can really get to learn what these cars are capable of in a safe and controlled environment. I took the school several times advancing from beginner to intermediate to advanced and then took an instructor training course with the Porsche Club. I am a Certified PCA instructor (no certificate in hand since I am not a member of PCA) and regularly instruct at various club open lapping days and Solo Sprint schools at Atlantic Motorsport Park.

If either of you are interested, I can PM you and keep you up to date on the dates of the lapping and Solo Sprint schools (the first one is usually on the Victoria Day weekend) so you can come out, check out the track, and I can take you for a ride in my E90. Mark, I know this might be especially appealing to you since you are looking for an ///M fix until you pick up your car in Europe. Hopefully it will be delivered locally in time for the September BMW Club school.

By the way Mark, Transit time from Bremerhaven to Halifax Autoport is only 10 days once the car is on the ship. Allowing for 10 days for inspection/reconditioning/getting on a Boat, 10 Days on the Boat and Max 3 days from Autoport to Halifax BMW you are looking at 23 shipping days after drop off from your ED. As long as your car is dropped off by the end of July it should make it in time for the school no problem.

I hope that the ducks all line up that way. Dropping the car of 23 July, so should be ok... In the worst case, I'll use the Porsche and maybe hop in the passenger seat in a real car for a lap with one of you guys.

Also thinking of taking a run to the Nurburgring (Green Hell) in Germany for a few laps after I pick up the car. Should still be fun, even with the break in considerations

I think you will be fine on timing. It would be amazing to take the car to the Nurburgring. I'm jealous

I had my 2,000 km service completed Monday and I can honestly say the car is a completely different animal above 6,000 RPM. It just screams. The first time I "played" with it was coming onto the highway... I scared myself a little because it pulled WAY more than I anticipated. Now that I'm a little more use to it, it is just plain fun. Can't wait to get to the school this summer. What I love the most about this car is how well it communicates what is going on... I can feel what the car is doing all of the time and if you really pay attention, it is very controllable.

Spoke to George at the Bluenose BMW Club a few days ago and he said that the event is totally booked up already. He also reassured me that I would have lots of fun!!!!!

Guys, maybe all of you guys could PM me your phone numbers and email addresses so we can set up a meet when I get in town? Point Pleasant Park???? Any other suggestions for a meeting location....... maybe after we meet we can take a drive down to Peggy's Cove....... again I am open to suggestions???

I will not be attending the school but plan on going out to spectate a little bit and hang out with car club friends.

I was a student at that school for 6 years and got what I could out of it. I have as much experience as most of the instructors at the BMW school (except the racers) and I should be an instructor. But because George Garner and I don't see eye-to-eye on my qualifications (I took a Train the Trainer course on instructing through the Porsche Club), I have not taken part in the school for the last 4+ years.

I have not missed an Open Lapping Day at the track in the last 4 years and am the only one local with an E9x generation ///M that has logged hundreds of laps there.

I'm definitely up for a meet when you are in town and for some drives to places like Peggy's Cove. The summer should be a good time!

PM's were sent to all members in the Halifax area...... please reply so I can organize it all.

Since I am not from the area I am open to suggestions for locations for the meet and for a drive. As of now I was thinking Point Pleasant Park for the meet and Peggy's Cove for a Drive afterwards. Please give me suggestions for alternative locations (with photos in mind of course......... I will bring my SLR).

When the meet gets closer (I am thinking the 14th or the 21st of August) will start a new thread pertaining to the meet to make everyone aware of time and location.
