I am in the same boat here. i have a 3 1/2 yr old and one on the way. I had an e46 four door and now a E90. E90 has substantial more room then the E46, but we never really used it to for hauling my son. It was the SUV or now the Odessey we used. It helps that my wife is a stay at home mom so there really is not an issue of me having to pick my child up or drop him off somewhere. Choices, choices choices.

I went for the sedan. Although it looked like it could work, I thought the contortions to get the kid in would get tired real fast.

I have a Recaro Young Sport in mine...in black of course! It works, my daughter is 2.5 years old too...

Word of warning though, rear facing baby seats do NOT fit...I have a 2.5 month old too, so trust me I know!

Good luck!

Heh heh, I had forgotten all about this thread.

After the original dscussion took place, I ended up talking myself into getting an M3 sedan for my next car. Well, that was the plan anyway. However, I recently picked up an E93, and have already had the whole family in it (me, wife, 8 yr old, and 1 yr old). Its somewhat more roomy than the E46 cab was with all of us in it. Although, I have not tried it as a passenger with my wife driving yet. I am hoping it will be more accomodating for me sitting in front of the child seat than the E46 was (more like our E90 335i is).

As discussed above, it can actually be done. It's not easy though.

My sister's kids two of them.... I always picked up from school and put them in the backseat... I always put a two cardboards back of the driver seat and the passegener seat.. because the two little germins kick and kick and kick and putting a mark on the back seats. even tho I "yell at them to stop" and literally they don't apparently listen to me at all as a uncle!

Infant CARRIERS (the kind that snap into a base) will not fit well. However, my Britax infant seat fits just fine rear facing. It is a bit of an effort to get my 6 month old into the seat, but the seat fits just fine. In fact, I can comfortably sit my 6' frame in the seat in front of the baby seat.

I have an E90 M3 sedan. It is MUCH easier to put the infant seat into the back seat. No contortions and you can place them in the middle.

I have an E92 coupe as a loaner from my dealer and it is a PITA to put the kind seat in the back. A huge pain and I thought I would never say this as I was always a believe that a bit of miscomfort was worth it to have the coupe. Now, I am happy my wife forced me to buy the sedan.

I have a Maxi Cosi baby seat in mine I went from a comfortable E60 M5 to an E92 M3 and I guess that sums it all I miss the cocoon feeling I had when I had the E46 M3......

We have 2 children, 4 and 5 years of age. 2 Years ago we bought an E92 335i. Since june we changed the 335i for an E93 M3. During the week it's my wife's car and in the weekends it's our familycar...
We have 2 babyseats in the back. The E92 was bigger in the back than our E93. I have the idea the backrest is more vertical than it is in the coupé.

Here can you find pictures of my car with the babyseats in the back. Meanwhile we bought some other seats, because our kids are no babys anymore...

I have a three year old. I make sure I take the shoes off, as they love to kick the seat.
My kid fits in there, and no problems. I get a lot of looks at the M3 with the car seat in the back. My only problem is that, the seat doesn't fit that well, so it jabbs into my leather. I got a blanket to put under it. Or, you can buy the BMW seats, which fit better, but are really expensive.
