Talking 991 S Cabriolet

Test drove a 991 S cab yesterday and what a car! Was PDK, sport exhaust, etc. and it was very planted. No complaints from the steering, was driven in the rain and was very stable and the PDK was excellent. Very rigid body and well put together. Don't get me wrong, I love the M3, but I definitely will consider the 991 S. Great car. Can't wait to see the GT3.

I was surprised at the difference between it and the M3. It felt lighter, better throttle response with better low end torque. The interior was definitely of a higher quality. I am definitely thinking of trading in the M3. My only question is whether to go with a coupe or a convertible.

I mean the 997 carrera S was a few notches or more above the m3 and now the brand new 991 is leaps and bounds over the m3 which is now quite old. The new m3 will again make progress but as usual left in the dirt by the porsche which is how it should be as the price point and technology is more advanced and exclusive.

Those are some of the reasons i made the switch. I like coupes for the increased rigidity and typically a coupe will be faster that the cabrio. If you get one make sure it has sport chrono package or it wont have launch control amongst other cool things that are included with it.

Thanks for the info. Good point on the difference in the pricing between an M3 and 991 S also. Now the next question is how much I will get hosed by trading in the M3 being that it is a 2012 with only 2100 miles on it. Either way I can't go wrong and the new M3 is also on my mind. Just have to make a decision and go with it.

Go for it! You will not regret it. My wife & I have had BMW's for the last 20+ years. She drives a 2012 M3. I just bought a 2013 911s last week. Wish I had done it sooner. What a blast to drive. Don't get me wrong,I love the M3 but it feels like a cruiser compared to the Porsche.

I am just amazed at the engineering involved in the new flat 6 that can produce over 400 hp and more torque with 3.6 litres and 6 cylinders AND with 7500 rpms compared to a 4 litre V8 with 8500 rpms.

how I ask...how!

3.8L actually.
My 991 C4S is due to arrive in late May. I do miss my M3 already though.

I agree it is a pretty sweet car. Picked mine up just over a week ago after close to a 5 month wait. The motor, sounds, brakes, handling, amenities, looks and daily usability make it an amazingly good package.

That's until you supercharge the m3 and eat porsches for lunch.

I won't speak for others but owning a fast car is not always about speed.
One of the things that sold me on the 911 was the feeling I got just driving it. The whole experience along with that glued to the road feeling made me want it.

On the serious note. It's a common Direction that many m3 owners travel when purchasing a newer vehicle. M3 to Porsche is exactly what my next move will be. After I hit 40.

If I don't keep this M3, it's definitely where I'm headed!

Agreed. 991S is not the car to buy if you just want all out speed. Ultimately the feel, sound and involvement is more important to me on a street car than numbers.

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I've been thinking on making this next move to a 991 C4S. This car is sexy! I haven't test drove it but heard great things about it.
