Front Plate...yes or no?

Are you guys running a front plate?

If no, how often are you getting pulled over and/or ticketed?

If yes, any recommendations on the various solutions that use the tow hook?

I really don't want to drill into my bumper.

Thanks,

George

It's your car now, but I say don't drill into that mint bumper

I got pulled over a few months ago. Police officer said that he pulled me over for not having a front plate, but then agreed if it was his car he wouldnt have put one on either and let me go.

I say as long as you arent doing anything sketchy, run plate-less.

If you get the tow hook, get us millworks.

Good quality.

If you're not worried about a "probable cause" stop, leave it off. Some locations even the meter maids can cite for no front plate.

In Santa Monica they cited me while parked in a city parking garage. Bought the Turner tow hook plate but it is nearly twice the price of the ticket. Don't love having it on there. But don't love getting pulled over less... And don't love good grammar either apparently.

OP, I drive in the MA/NH area and do not use a front plate on M3. It's been almost 1-year and I have yet to be pulled over or receive a ticket. Am I taking a chance, yes. But this is the first car I didn't want to install a front plate. Perhaps I'll see you on the road (look for a Melbourne Red coupe).

I have always used a front plate. Just not worth the hassle for me. Since I have always had one, it doesn't bother me. I mount it properly in the center with a nice plate frame to make it look as nice as possible. The tow hook thing, IMO, looks really bad with the plate off to the side like that.

I believe it is a $35 fine for the first offense. Subsequent offenses for this violation increases; I believe $75 2nd offense and $150 3rd or subsequent offense.

Yesterday, I ran into my first issue with not having the front plate installed. Fortunately it wasn't due to a LEO taking notice. Rather it was for my inspection sticker. The dealer couldn't provide me with it until the plate was mounted. The plate was back home in my DD. The dealer had provided me with a loaner vehicle. After returning the tech used wire-wrap to install it which was removed once I left the service building.

I suspect someone might ask why the front plate was in my other vehicle. I am migrating to a vanity plate. The DMV requires one of the current plates to process the request.

In the end, I have my inspection sticker, new plate on the way and yes I am taking a chance of obtaining a ticket should a LEO take notice. If that latter happens, most likely I'll install it to avoid any future problems. For now, I prefer the clean look.

Interesting...

I just had my car inspected successfully without having a front plate.

Just in case, I had it with me, but nothing was said.
